I recently bought my E220 CDI Estate from a VW Dealer. (The mileage was too high for MB to be interested.) The test drive went fine, but it was due an 'A' service, so I insisted on this being done before I would sign. It's a good thing I did because the service cost the VW Dealer £1,362.43 excluding VAT!
The MB Dealer that did the service also did some unspecified upgrades/recalls. When I picked up the car, I noticed a whirring sound (like an electric motor) when or just before starting the engine. It lasts for about 3-4 seconds and then stops. I have also noticed it at other times, usually when the car is stationary (e.g. while waiting in traffic or when parking up). When the whirring noise occurs, the brake pedal also vibrates quite noticeably. None of these symptoms were present before the service.
I assume that the noise and vibration is the SBC building up pressure, but why is this only happening after the service, why does it happen frequently while driving and why should it be so noisy? Have any other E-Class drivers experienced the same thing?
