Can anyone tell me if it is possible to switch of the passenger airbag so that i can put my little boys seat in the front?

been told that i need a mb child seat which has the transponder to deactivate the passenger side airbag.........seat is £250?!?!?!??!:(

But of a cheek if you ask me...................what mb have said is that any other child seat cannot be used in the front?!?!?!?!

Don't know, but £250 is a bargain - we paid £300 if memory serves!!

thanks mate, but my son is 4 months now and the seat only takes him to 9 months after which i need to get another one......which is.....wait for it............£350!!!!!!!!

seems pointless to spend £250 and after 5 months having to spend £350....

There should be away to do this for maintenance on the passenger air bag. It used to involve setting/removing a wiring link beneath a large kick plate where the front passenger's feet rest against the front bulkhead. Trouble is I think this disables the drivers steering wheel airbag also! Since safety is involved here its VITAL you get a definitive answer from an expert ( not me). There are other parts of the safety system to consider also SIDE AIRBAGS and BELT TENSIONERS. In theory it should be possible without buying the Merc seat I think but only an expert can tell you how to do this for sure.

I can vouch for the fact that a Honda seat will be recognised, and it costs a lot less.

so honda work on the transponder basis too......................do you know how much they are roughly?

Hi There,
I'm interested in what the outcome was on this - did you find out whether or not a Honda seat disables the front airbag ?
I've been using the 0-9 months seat until now but junior is now 13 months and so I'm looking into buying the next seat up which MB are charging £295 for. I did wonder whether or not I would be able to tear the old seat apart, locate the transponder and just buy a normal seat and tape the transponder to it - does anybody know where the transponder is located, what it looks like and whether or not it would work ?

To be honest with you, this is a safety matter and safety counts first.
I would personally buy the seat for £300 because you can't put a price tag on a human. SAFETY FIRST.

I know you want to know a way to turn it off and I dont think there is, but its not worth the risk. If you did start dis-connecting plugs and wires, your SRS light will come on and you will need a MB computer to turn it off.

If I had £300 spare, I would buy you the seat as SAFETY FIRST.

on the clk the front airbag swirches itself off, with the orange light showing airbag off. must be some sort of weight sensor,Ive used it several times with my daughter

cant you put the baby seat in the back instead?

That is my problem, there are no rear seats in the SL. Could be time for a family car !
