Does anyone know

at what interval should the Fuel filter be changed?

Not sure. I did mine last year as I didn't see a record of it in the service history. I just decided my my peace of mind was worth 10 minutes' work and about £30.

40k miles

Haynes says 75k miles or 4 years. The older models stipulated 36k miles which is better. I would say 40k miles max. :) You will need a couple of flexible hose clamps if you dont want covered in petrol. ;) slacken the fuel cap to release any pressure in the tank first. Remember petrol is toxic/flammable so avoid contact with your skin or clothes. Best done on a ramp with a cool exhaust if possible. :)

Just for info petrol cannot be ignited by heat alone, it requires a spark or naked flame.

Just had mine done on service 41,000and there are 2 fiilters :bannana: :bannana:

Since I changed my fuel filter I've gotten about another 40 miles out of a full tank. Its well worth doing.

is it a good idea to change the pre-fuel filter with this too? i cannot see a reference in my service history of the fuel filter changed but do they work hand in hand?

Its only there to catch big bits. Pull it out, if its clean you might as well continue using it. You can actually wash it out easily enough, just let it dry before you put it back in.

right i got a new fuel filter and pre-filter does changing it make a big difference to fuel consumption, its only £8 do these parts normally last quite a few miles before we should change them (not following the MB schedule)

Of course not.
When blocked it'll only restrict the amount of fuel reaching the engine/injecters. A blocked filter won't make your engine run richer.
