Fuel Filter

Hi fellow merc owners, i hope one or two of you fine gentlemen could help me out with a little problem. I have a 2002 52 plate CLK500 which i have just done an oil and filter service on, but the problem is I can't find the fuel filter. All the information i have recieved say it is at the back near the wheels, some say left some say right, i have removed every panel and shield i can see, but after two day's of searching i still can't locate it. I've even tried following the fuel pipes but they disappear above the tank, surly you dont have to drop that i hope!.
Any information or even better a diagram will be greatly recieved.

It appears the filter is integrated with the delivery unit.

It appears the filter is integrated with the delivery unit.

... which means it's under the back seat, in the top of the left-hand section of the fuel tank.
