Hi
last year in November I bought a V Class 220 Ambiente the car as going fine but inside cabin was a terrible small of fumes. So I found out about the so called " black death" and I went to change the Injectors seals. This forum was good help just reading all the different topics about black death save me a bit of money as I didn't allowed the mechanic to change the injector but only the washers and bolts.

One year later and here I am while i was driving I heard a "Chuff Chuff"
First Injector seal completely gone. So I found a new mechanic and today without any struggle he took off the 4 injectors cleaned them, cleaned inside the cylinders where the injector seats, before sitting back the injectors to clean the fuels lines he start the car and so some diesel came out he then finished to clean. He then put some special grease on the injectors stick the seals on the injectors and fit them back.

He also cleaned also the EGR valve. The work was done in four hours.

Drove back home but while I was driving I could still smell diesel in the cabin I thought it may need to burn the residues of diesel and the tar left in the engine compartment. But when I came back home i noticed that the fumes where coming out of the bonnet a bit to much and the more I was accelerating the more smoke i was producing and so I thought that is not just burning the residues and so I bent under the car and i saw licking I dried the bottom of the oil sump but 1 minute later was dripping again. I touched the fluid and is diesel it looks like clean fuel before it gets in the injectors. looking at the engine from the top on the back there's a little reservoir and under neath there I see coming out smoke.

I went strait back to the mechanic which he was insisting that it was just the residues and that it would dried up but I insisted to and show to them why I think is not just the residues . So tomorrow morning I'm due there again.

I just would like to know if some one has any idea what i need to look for as the mechanics are professional but is not the first time that they tell me (not the same garage)that there's nothing and I found the fault.

Sounds like the injector seats in the head need to be recut.
Thank you very much for your replying.Tomorrow morning they will have to strip and then will see... I guess. But wouldn't be the fuel very dark if it was leaking from there? cause the fuel that drip is very clean ...but I'm not an expert. I will consider your suggestion e forward the mechanic. Thanks again tomorrow I will post what happened and if the problem persist (hope not) some pics.

You won't need to recut the injector seats for a diesel leak, he either damaged the spill off pipe refitting or has not tightened the diesel injector feeds enough.

yes Auto-mobile it was not the injector seat although he did took out the second injector and recut the seat and change the copper washer. The problem was the fuel return pipe I will post a picture later as I just came back home and going to have a dinner break. They cut a new pipe and rifit the for litte rubber washers of the 4 (forgot the name) that let the fuel back in the injector. The problem was that once everything was fitted and the engine cover was closed the leak started again and this time even worse. We were all ****** off cause we tried without the cover at 2-3000 revolution and there was not leak and as soon we covered the head start pissing like a hell. So for the third time open recheck everything and at the end they decide to change the little rubber washer with a slightly larger one. Phieuff!! I stayed there from this morning at 9am till 5 pm and in all of this check and fitting and refitting so much fuel was spread in the engine compartment and everytime cleaned so once i left I went to a jet wash and washed very thing inside the engine compartment and underneath the car and now is not smelling(so much) of diesel from the Heaters outlets.

i did not pay any extra( I gave 20 pounds tip to the younger mechanic) and all cost me 155 pounds. I think that I will stick with this guys in the future.
