Fuel light On, record distance?

Had a Karmann Ghia years ago, it was quite strange because it had a reserve, but you had to switch it on, (like a m/bike) via a lever just left of the clutch on the floorpan. I think it had 5lts.

Had a Honda vfr 750 motorbike.
went onto reserve going into work,
ran out about halfway home
20 miles at most.
very hard to push the half mile to the petrol station.
only ever did it once though
