Over the past few months I have been getting a smell of fuel in the mornings on starting the car.

At Ollie's GTG it was up on the ramps and he showed me the issue....a seeping rubber fuel pipe from the fuel pump to the fuel filter.

On Monday I popped down to the MB dearler to get the pipe. The pipe measures 115mm. But I had to but a whole metre of the stuff as the dealer does not sell below a metre ....cost £13.00 !!!!!

I would have been happy with half a metre but a whole metre when I need just over 10% of that amount ???

What a ridiculous situation and what a con when you can't buy any less than a metre of this stuff.....after all, this is just rubber hose that is being cut off a reel. Its not like i'm asking for one egg out of a box of six.

Just buy a foot from a local parts shop then.

The EPC lists this stuff as per meter.

I would have done if I had known....unfortunately after I got to the dealers, I didn't have the time to run around to parts shops to buy the pipe, so I landed up getting a metre .....whats so bad about MB selling below a metre ?:(

It's just annoying that they do this.....to be honest, it's such a tiny piece of pipe, if someone came into your shop and asked for that size, you'd probably give it away free !!!

Very few parts shops sell this type of thing, even GSF amd Euro do not seem to stock vacuum piping, thats why I say use an indoor fish tank shop

Yes, true, hence the reason as to why I didn't want to run about all over the place looking for it aswell. Also I was unsure if the bore size would be correct if I bought it from a parts shop.

£13 for the job done...

Not the end of the world. You will save it on fuel costs :)

Put the rest back in the packaging on e-bay you will probably double your money

Just because something is priced per meter, that does not mean that you must buy 1 meter, are the parts guys reading things wrong, I buy cable by the 100 meters, and is someone wants 150mm I sell it pro rata.

OK some firms have a minimum charge for raising an invoice

I bet the parts system wouldn't allow them to enter 0.5 as a unit quantity (which is effectively what you wanted).
