Fuel Prices

I guess Woking is so much because it's in the town centre, and so has to charge the same as the shoppers car parks (per day).

No, the station car park is a long way from the town centre. In fact it's a fair way from the station, 10 minute walk or so to the platforms!

Just bought a 260E as a runaround with an 80 litre LPG tank in the boot. LPG is 39.9 pence a litre and you do not know that you are driving on gas. It is my first LPG powered car. This equates to around 50mpg...way to go!

So you mean the roads will be clear for you to use your own car ?

adam

I must say, this would be ideal! :)

Get everyone else off the road (excluding MB Club members obviously) and my journey to work would be fantastic.

Cheapest Super Unleaded around here is 100.9p and I drive about 8 miles for that!! Not even centre of London or middle of nowhere, just a West Midlands suburb.

As I said earlier, I too often use the bus. It is clean, modern, smooth, comfortable, air conditioned and the fare is less than the cost of fuel. There are dedicated bus lanes and more are being built and so the journey takes little longer than using the car. It is stress free, I can doze or read. I use the car when I have to be especially early or when I know I might be late or have something else to do.
The difference is that many European countries make public transport a real alternative but this involves subsidies and therefore higher taxes. Transport is not cheap, it is just a matter of how you wnat to pay.

I recently commuted to and from the rail station by bus for 4 months (to avoid paying £6 a day to park, although the bus fare was £3.60) - and it was a joke. The buses came and went when they felt like it, early, late, or not at all depending on traffic / roadworks / breakdowns / etc. The "real time" display panel on the bus stop saying when they were coming bore no relation to reality whatsoever.

Ahh, the joys of Oriental Road!

I take it Sunningdale station doesn't take you to the right place, I would've though that was closer than Woking?

Fortunately I don't pay to park in the station, it's actually faster for me to walk than to take the car.....

Yup I need to get to Waterloo, so Woking is the top choice!

I get a lift to the outskirts of Woking now, so I avoid both the bus and the car park :)

From Chobham there's only one bus an hour to Woking, luckily I've not had to try that option yet!

Weekly season ticket Woking to Waterloo (BR only, no Travelcard) is £57.

Woking's definitely got more trains, but surely Sunningdale is cheaper to park? Which side of Chobham are you?

£57 is enough to fill my car for 2 weeks commuting and weekend use! Mind you on the odd occasion I have to go in a Travelcard is something like £16 for the day!!

My OH drives to Guildford every morning so it's not a problem being dropped off in Woking, otherwise I'd definitely consider Sunningdale. I'm sure the parking would be easier and cheaper there, a better option than trying to get to Woking by bus!

I often drop one of the kids off at Woking station (fridays). My office is about 50 yds from the station entrance. If you are there around 07:40 - 07:45 ish on Friday, you'll see me outside. You'll know its me!

One of the few really good things about Woking is the frequency of trains to London in the morning. Its something like one every couple of minutes!

Water fuel

Had a quick scan in the search option...

Has anyone seen this news snippet from the US. Some engineer/genius has developed a method for running a Ford Escort on water! I don't know if its real or not.

Can't wash your car, but you can drive to wherever
