Funniest car name?!

The Mazda MX5 was originally named Mazda Miata in some markets, which to the untrained ear could sound like an Italian swearword.

Reliant Regal

'By appointment to Her Majesty the Queen..' - NOT!

Thanks to Russia for taking these cars, keep sending them to Russia hopefully we won't see them over here, lol.:D

I can't think why no one has ever brought it to the manufacturers attention not to badge their cars " S TD" There's quite a few out there!

Also the Fiat Argenta had rather unfortunate timing to have been launched, and Dedra was a bit morbid for this country.

You've reminded me of my Lancia Dedra, which I stubbornly continued to pronounce "Deedra"!! :D Even when I started the Lancia Dedra Owners Consortium (yeah, really!) I still stuck to my "eee" ::D

You started the Dedra Consortium? - I remember that when we had our Dedra!
I loved that car- bought for £50 off Ebay when Ebay was just a baby, it was immaculate.. it only needed a back box in nearly 4 years of ownership.

Ford Escort. Who'd have thought they'd name a car after a whore?

Peugeot Prossie
Suzuki Slag
Toyota Tart
Hyundai Hooker
Nissan Cheap Friendly Street Lady of the Night(Saloon or hatch).

Wow! Small word! yeah, it was part of the Lancia Owners Club and I thought there wasn't much representation for the Dedra (mine was a 2000 turbo) so I started the consortium. I'll route out a photo I have of our first meet! Did you ever come to any?

By the way, to those not in the know, despite it's rather sombre name, the Dedra (especially the Turbo versions) was a good car, much under-rated and better IMO than it's Alfa 155 sister (which I had also!) and WAY better than the FIAT Tempra it was based on! Quite luxurious for it's day too :)

Found it! Mine is J209 XVX! :)

The Chrysler cars marketed over here, fitted with a diesel engine, are badged 'CRD'.

You said it, guys! Couldn't have put it better myself.
I think Mercedes noticed this trick and went for CDi instead...

:D Before my initiation into MB ownership, when I first saw CDI on the back of an MB I thought it was a trim level (like "CD" on old Vauxhalls!) and it was an injection version! hahah! Seems silly now!

The japs are the best at coming up with silly names.. A lot of jap cars have silly slogans written down the side...
The Toyota Lucida always seemed to have these stickers on them... I cant remember an example but we used to have a giggle walking around the auction halls....

Funny you should mention the Lucida. There's a guy near us in Vladimir that has one and it has "Estima Lucida Sports Utility Racing Van" in large letters down the side!! Very cool, eh! :D

For information, and for the anoraks out there, Dedra was supposed to be pronounced "Daydra". However, still a dumb name for the UK.

I was membership seceretar of the Thema & Dedra Consortium from around 2000 to 2008. The Dedra side was brought in around 1998 or 1999 I think. When did you start the Dedra consortium? I thought it was a certain other Lancia person from the club!

You forgot the Bristol Brass :p

On the other hand, there really were kit cars called Tramp and Hustler...

I remember reading that the Mitsubishi Pajero (sold in the UK as Shogun) could not be sold in Spain under this name because Pajero means a little bird in Spanish and is common reference to male member in Spain. Something like Mitsubishi c*** over here. Any Spanish speaking people here to confirm this story?

Actually, Pajero in Spanish means W*nk*r. People still drive them though.
Regards, Jeff
