You John?

:D :D I would love to, but sadly 'the boss' is the driver and she is the most boring, law abiding driver you could ever have the misfortune to sit with :o :o

Got to go as I can hear her coming!!!

:D :D No!!!

We are really looking forward to meeting you all, poor wife is already panicking :o :o

will it be making it to the annual pilgrimage. I could be up for another go. Am sure we can find some suitable place nearby.

If it is I will get my car weighed properly in its trim now!

and i think it may go, if its warm, better without the ESP on as that was holding us back.

I'll send the G tech down with Grav for this GTG, then Pammy, Scumbag and Grav can be the trained operatives;) Meanwhile we have a few weeks of testing yet. C240Sport and Andy k were next -is either of you ready or might we fit in another person first?

Is there anyone near or who can get to Medway wants tested before the G tech goes to Grav for the GTG?

Revised table:

2005 C180k 0-60 8.2 1/4 mile 16.5 Terminal 78.0 -R2D2
160 RWHP = Est 205bhp

1998 E55 AMG 0-60 5.47 1/4 mile 14.5 Terminal 102.1 -Grav
360 RWHP = Est 462bhp

1995 E320 Est 0-60 7.3 1/4 mile 15.8 Terminal 91-AndyK

2003 SLK 320 0-60 6.28 1/4 mile 14.48 Terminal 100mph -Pammy

2005 SLK55 AMG 0-60 4.82 273bhp = Est 360bhp -Scumbag

I've been running with the g tech plugged in ready for those occasional opportunities- I did a 1/4 mile run yesterday with a terminal speed of 86.6mph which is the best I've ever done. I won't update the table above yet because it was my best not an an averaged run. If i can repeat it though:)

Does anybody know about the effect of temperature and performance. It is another boiling day here and my bhp figures are rubbish but the car feels ok?

Is this about the engine and kompressor like a diet of cool air?

I think you are getting a little obsessed :)

but yes cool air is very important for a supercharger

I take exception to the word little.:D

It is very interesting to note what effects your car and when it goes well and when it doesnt. I have only actually had it fitted to the car on about 4 separate days though.

Four degrees Celsius should theoretically be the optimum ambient temperature as that's when air is at it's most dense. Though that that said the effects of under bonnet temperatures will distort the picture a little.

As Andy K says, turbocharged and supercharged vehicles like cool air (as the process of forced induction heats the intake charge up so much) and hence the fitment of intercoolers, and more recently water mist sprays and CO2 halos have become more common place on cars running high boost - all to reduce the intake temperature. It can be too cold though...

so we are now going from finding out what our car does on a given day to working out the best time, and what we can do to make the car gives its best performance.

So we need to lower the tyre pressures to gain traction and this wont be causing tyre problem as it for a short run and not a lengthy high speed ride.

might gain us a tenth or too.

i did say it gets addictive. we will need to lower the weight, and maybes removes some air restrictive bits between the radiator and the filter? and 4 am starts too.

Am just looking at a map of Dartmoor. there appears to be some suitable stretches of the Queens, but is it at an altitude?

:D You might get a quarter yard straight, but a quarter of a mile.. level stretch might be pushing things :D :D I believe te snow has melted from the higher points, but there might be another front creeping in. :) :)

What about hoisting a spinnaker to take advantage of the prevailing winds??

Oh and make sure the exhaust is pointing rearwards and not down.

John

As a matter of interest, what launching technique are you all using ?
Just flooring the throttle pedal or are you holding the car with your left foot on the brake?

Holding the car on the brake but only a little bit for a fraction of a second. Sometimes I tip into 1st and leave it there othertimes I leave it in D.

Snow? you dont know what snow is! when i was a lad I had to walk 3 miles to school in the snow and when i got there they sent me home and told me to put my shoes on before i come back!

a what? a spin nacker? is that a twirling testie? a revolving Gonad?

and the winds from where exactly?

we have machines on the hills here to keep the wind blowing! at least i think thats what they are for, or do they make the earth spin! either way, the green protesters dont want them as they spoil the views, and they dont want power stations as they spoil the views and they dont want the roads that take you to see these spoilt views as they spoil the views too.

so do we , a, dig up the roads and then plant these big wind machines knowing that nobody will ever see them, or b, leave the road and put the machines in towns where the people are, who are too busy to go see the views now unspoilt leaving the protesters to moan about how lovely the country is and what a great place to live it would be if it wasnt so damned expensive.

foot off the brake and gentle but firm and full push of throttle. flooring it too quick just makes the dash light up.

if the weather is up for it, i will try several take off's, 1 pf which will be ESP free to see if that stops it taking out too much power, thus using my right foot to control the reduction of spin, or crashing!

My best time was set in C mode, but on further runs it still activated TC on change up to 2nd pulling out too much power. and i dont have the feet reactions to beat the ESP.

At Bruntingthorpe, the grip level was so good it was a direct stand on the throttle and no lights at all. it just leapt off the line.

With pammy it didnt.

might try a left foot brake hold and see if it helps.

i never used Manual mode as it would just bounce of the rev limiter. It doesn't change quick enough for it to be useful.
