G Tech

No I quite understand! In a car as powerful as yours peak power will maybe be at about 140mph!

Several things spring to mind. i had more than normal tyre pressures. as it was cool this would not have help traction. and as you say, it may have needed to be run faster. I am sure i read in the instructions that you have to be either above 130mph or below 30mph for it to get a readind. and we did guesstimate the weight based on our known weights and the cars kerb wieght. we had input around 1616kg whatever that was in pounds. that may have adjusted the figures somewhat.

My view is that if people what the most accurate record of HP they definatly need to get the car weight measured so they can at least be fully assured it represents a known test weight.

Now i have looked at it,it isnt far off what i would expect.

I reckon your car is bang for power becauses theres not much wrong with a 0-60 of 4.82 secs. I bet you had a smile when the G tech flashed that one up!
I think you are correct about traction, tyre pressures, and speed. My car only produced its 160bhp as "significant" speed.

Most Dynos that I have been on only run the car to 80-90 mph and have a fan at the front with all the will in the world that fan isnt going to provide the same airflow as doing 140mph on a track.

Your car currently has the fastest 0-60 on the forum but Grav wants another go without Magnets in the boot and Maffs car must put in a good 0-60. But at the moment 4.82secs is the Forum record.

PS Are you going to do a 1/4 mile time??

Am not available to do the 1/4mile at the moment. and to be honest, on a public road i dont think its advisable. so thats out for the moment.

looking at the figures i got, if you deduct the difference i made to Pammys time from being in the car and out, which was the best part of .4 seconds. we, traction willing, could have been looking at 4.5.

Maffs at Bruntingthorpe had some fun trying to keep up with me off the line. and watching Maff bouncing off the steering wheel while we were neck and neck at 110 was amusing to say the least. Now that he has got his car fixed, i would expect it to start to increase on mine beyond 50mph. but i think off the line i will still have him. gets a bit addictive this doesnt it.

I may have ordered a new car this Friday, so we may never find out if i can get the fastest acceleration of all.

Let you know more Friday. its £86,500 and is going to be sent into the paint machine in around 1 hours time. apparently the guy who specced it way back last June, doesnt want it, so its available and will be out and about from next week.

You'd think for the money it'd come with some bass-cannons in the boot too!

Dont go giving him ideas!

Hows the current G tech user, Pammy today?

I'm good - but no chance of testing for the next few says around here as it's the Great Yorkshire Show which means all roads are a mess. But it's all over by Thursday so with any luck I might get a go on Friday. If not I'll post it on to Andy;)

I did a double-take this evening as I left the chinese take away - a Fiesta with much the same approach as the Scumbags new Aygo :D

The owners mate saw me, and mentioned it had cost £30k all in, and the lad who owns it is only 17!! Having seen it, whilst not to the taste of your average car connosieur you could see muchos pounditos had been thrown at it.

I walked away wondering "why??" - I bet his insurance is seriously expensive, and could probably insure something fairly exotic for less. Each to their own though.

The policy probably lists it as an unmodified 1.1 bonus ;)

how's it looking Pammy?:)

I've been lazy and not read the information relating to the Gtech but how does the unit measure the distance covered and the speed?

I'm fairly sure it will not be measuring BHP at all but the torque required to accellerate a know mass form one speed to another. This gives the rate of accelleration which translates into torque. Power can then be derived.

AFAIK this is the most accurate way of measuring wheel torque and in particular any changes to the performance.

Surely the max BHP can be recorded in any given gear as long as the engine uses the whole rev band. As the torque rises and falls so will the accelleration due to the amount of torque supplied. Multiply this by the revs and you have the power output.

.

Basically you've got it in one! Earlier on in the thread there are links to technical descriptions which put the flesh on the bones you provided. The device is incredible as well as very accurate.

You can record the bhp live as you drive along but max bhp requires lots of speed and lots of air;)

Andy- if you arent ready I think Sean C240sport is ready, do you want Pammy to send it to Sean before you or will you be ready?

Let me know guys. I'll try the 1/4 mile this weekend.

done the 1/4 - results below  :bannana:

2005 C180k 0-60 8.2 1/4 mile 16.7 Terminal 70.6 -R2D2
160 RWHP = Est 205bhp
1998 E55 AMG 0-60 5.47 1/4 mile 14.5 Terminal 102.1 -Grav
360 RWHP = Est 462bhp
1995 E320 Est 0-60 7.3 1/4 mile 15.8 Terminal 91-AndyK
2003 SLK 320 0-60 6.28 1/4 mile 14.48 terminal 100.0 - Pammy

Let me know who wants it next. I'd like to post today if poss;)

Well done Pammy, they are seriously good results. Grav will REALLY want another go now;) Until that day Pammys SLK does a faster 1/4 mile than an E55!!

Whose next Sean or Andy??
