Driving the W124 it seems to be "surging" on changing gear when cold/warming up. Thought it was me being a bit heavy footed but noticed the same thing when Carol was pulling away this morning on her way to work.

Normal?

Common problem on the W124....nromally caused by a build up of dirt in the throttle body...specifically on the butterfly flap. This creates a bad seal which in turn causes a slight air-leak...this confuses the ECU which then overfuels and then underfuels the engine which creates the surging effect that you are getting.

Normally easy to remedy by taking the air induction trunk off the throttle body and then spraying some carb cleaner into the throttle body and then putting some rag around a screw driver and gently pushing down on the butterfly flap and cleaning around the edges of the disc itself

Appreciated. Being something of a numpty with car engines (quiet Mr. Walker!) any chance of a pic of what I need to be looking at?

re photos....Sadly not from me as I no longer have a W124 with that engine....
