Gearbox dipstick

I have a SLK55AMG and just bought a transmission dipstick for it. Trouble is the dipstick is about a 3- 4 feet long and only the first foot will go down the tube.

Any thoughts, wrong dipstick? or what?

Thats correct. Just dip it until it stops. make sure the engine is running at at full operating temp. (30 min drive)

^ It must surely go down more than a foot though Olly?

its possible that the "O" ring from the dipstick cap has gone into the tube.
