Contacted the insurer elephant who referred me to autoglass, I'll have to pay £115 for a generic windscreen

Insisted I want an OEM approved Mercedes stamped windscreen upon which they stated I'll need to speak to my insurance company as the excess is £115 plus £330 to fit an OEM screen!

Vehicle has rain sensing wipers and Auto lights auto glass have confirmed they can calibrate onsite, no need to go to Mercedes

I'm hoping I can convince my insurer to cover the OEM windscreen but not hopeful due to the age of the vehicle.

Should I go with the generic windscreen or pay the additional costs myself for an OEM windscreen?

It's a windscreen, as long as it's good enough quality and is compatible with your auto wipers and lights, I would go for the aftermarket one.

Auto glass fitted a non OEM windscreen on our V220. They calibrated it all, it all works but it does creek a little and sets the dashcam off on the rare occasion that we hit a pothole 😳🏴‍☠️.

Not able to get an OEM screen at the time due to unavailability

Hi - I have a w212 E350 2014 and had a replacement windscreen a couple of years ago. The insurers - mercedes own policy underwritten by Markerstudy - refused to fit an OEM Mercedes stamped screen and said they would only do so on a vehicle up to 12 months old. I had purchased the policy with them on the basis that they only use genuine Mercedes parts and main dealer repairers so was a little annoyed.

The screen was calibrated and fitted by auto glass at the Merceds Brentford main dealer site. The wipers were not correctly repositioned so they had to come out to my home to fix that. In the course of this second repair, they damaged the engine cover cowl in the engine bay which i luckily witnessed and which, after 5 months, they replaced.

I now note that the screen ices up inside the car during the colder nights of the year so wonder if the seals were seated correctly.

Possibly I was just unlucky but if you do go with aftermarket check everything very carefully once completed.

Hope this helps.

After several calls being passed between my insurer elephant and autoglass they have refused to cover the cost of an MB replacement windscreen due to the age of the vehicle and the additional costs involved. They stated it's in their policy that they fit generic/ non OEM windscreens

I'll just have to check everything when I collect the vehicle

The icing on the windscreen in the winter and condensation I've experienced on another vehicle, I do hope it doesn't happen to the Merc!

My vehicle has adaptive headlights ILS and rain sensing wipers, does anyone know if these will need to be calibrated when the new windscreen is fitted?

Yes they will and the windscreen company will be able to do this. fitting these types of screens requires the cars are taken to the depot and not replaced on site.

Cheers, booked in a couple of weeks time, autoglass are doing the job at their depot. Will mention the calibration when I drop the vehicle off

Finally had the windscreen fitted by Autoglass, the brand was Fuyao, the technician advised they are fitting more of this brand in comparison to Pilkington and the Fuyao brand is fitted to other German vehicles.

So far so good, it's really clear, I'm guessing because it's a new windscreen 😁

Autoglass also calibrated the wipers and auto lights, hopefully the windscreen is just as good as the OEM Merc screen!

That will be down to the fitters skill.....not the screen maker...
