Getting music off an Ipod

Hello,


I have had my laptops brains flushed as I had a virus , most important stuff (like my pictures) I backed up. Forgot all about iTunes.....oops

Now when I go to iTunes it lists a few tracks but nothing like the shed load I have on the Ipod or I had in iTunes.

My ipod is still full of music but how do I put this back in iTunes?, I googles it and downloaded a software package ephPod, but although it copied bits there was nothing in the folders when I opened them??

Is there an easy way of getting the tunes off my ipod to the computer? (its a 5th generation ipod 80GB video if it makes a difference)

I think you need to de-authorise the laptop (under the Store menu in iTunes) and then make sure that you don't have auto sync enabled and connect your ipod. iTunes asks if you want to copy all purchased music from the ipod to the laptop.

Read up on iTunes help first I would hate for you to loose all the tracks from you ipod...

There are a couple of aftermarket/3rd party utilities that will handle this for you.

Reading this short thread has further reinforced my opinon of why ipods are so popular over other "normal" (and cheaper and better) MP3 players.
I have a Sandisk player and its very good. Less than half the price of a similar sized ipod. Maybe not so "B&O" as an ipod, but my ears cant tell the difference.

I'm with you verytalldave except my ears can tell the difference and iPods don't really sound that good.

Hello,

Managed to do it, downloaded a third party software called music rescue. It cpies the tunes to the hard drive then install iTunes on what ever PC / Mac and Import.


Verytalldave, I will agree the ipod is probably no better than cheaper versions, but then could we not say this about most things. Like a Merc compared to the new skodas?...

Thats why we have a choice, ooh and theres an awful lot of add ons, docks, chargers, speakers etc for the ipod
