has anyone had their rims/alloys damaged or scratched or kerbed when getting tyres fitted by Costco?

does costco allow you to watch the tyres being fitted? if so, how near can you get?

do they let you drive your car on to the ramp?

Thanks.

I got a set fitted at CostCo coventry. You can watch quite easily but due to insurance you are not allowed up close. Effectively they drive the car into the bay, but they only have to drive it about 10 foot. So you are only about 5 foot from the rear of your vehicle. The Tyre removal, replacement and balancing all occurs at the front of the car effectively so you can watch everything they do but you have to stand behind a red tape which goes across the garage door. I am sure if you asked nicely they may allow you to check jacking points etc. As far as I remember they just used used jacks and did not put it on a ramp.

They did a good job, had plastic sleave on the wheel nut socket to protect the alloys. Used the proper alloy weights etc.

So I was satisfied and they did a very reasonable job. The chaps do seem to be a bit more trained and experienced than your average tyre fitting team.

I also worry about the alloys being damaged so I did keep a close eye on them.

I am going to buy an other set of Winter Tyres there under the 20% off offer starting this week, will get these fitted as soon as it gets below 7 Celcius in the mornings - generally October time. But thats what is great, you can buy the tyres take them home and then get them fitted an other time.

I've never had any damage to my rims by Costco. Here's a contrast of my experience of two branches.

Costco Liverpool allowed me to drive the car onto the ramp and watch reasonably close.

In contrat, Costco Reading drove the car onto the ramp and off it, and I had to stand behind(ish) the red line.

Had Michelins fitted by costco, no damage and wasn't really concerned enough to watch - I went off to have a £1.50 hotdog and coke :D

You can watch them fit from a distance, but to be honest if you are that concerned go to an (expensive or otherwise) independent fitter who will let you watch over the entire procedure..

On another note - is there any way of finding out their prices before driving over to the nearest branch? Just trying to assess how 'real' is the 20% discount offer.

At Costco Sheffield you can stand at the side of the guy while he does them and they are good.

Just call, ask for the tyre department, and ask them when they answer.

They usually quote a fully fitted, inc VAT price, but check that's the case. Ask if it includes the current discount or not (it shouldn't do).

thanks all.

I called Watford costco today.

the price for 4 PS2s for my Boxster was £884 .. compared to £1090 from WIM.

a good £200 saving.

No.

At my local Costco this used to be possible depending on what bay your car was in but the layout now means you can only watch from outside.

do they let you drive your car on to the ramp?
No.

Personally I don't rate them any better or worse than Kwikfit.

Real enough AFAICT.

Look them up on the wan and phone your nearest branch and ask to speak to tyre sales. You don't need to be a member.
