On the 'new or pre-owned thread, there has been some mention of gifts from dealers when buying a new -or even a used car from an MB dealer. Bottle of Champagne? Flowers for the wife? Such things have been mentioned.

My local dealer used to do bunches of flowers but nowadays a handshake is all you can expect. What do other members dealers do?

I got a bunch of flowers for the Mrs when I picked up my C320 the week before last. But it's the first time in ages this has happened.

With the M class, a book, a meal for two (at a restaurant I wouldn't eat in:mad:) and an off road day for one at Cliveden (about £200 for Mrs A iirc). Didn't take them up on any of them...would rather have had the money!!

Other things with other cars which I don't recall.

I think that is a nice touch. I suppose as we drive the discounts up more and more, these things will disappear? Hope not.

We got a bunch of flowers & a box of choclates when we bought the A Class.
The C came privately so no 'free stuff', other than a few coins and a Savage Garden CD ;)

I used to get a bunch of flowers for the wife, this seems to have stopped, although my wife doesn't go to the dealers with me anymore.

Last two CLS's they have given me a MB umbrella and a MB keyring, which I modified.;)

With the most expensive vehicle I've ever bought (new Vito), nothing.

With the (used) R129, a bottle of champagne.

When I bought my (now ex) wife a new Jaguar, She was given a bouquet of Flowers and a box of choccies. I thought it was a nice touch.

Its got nothing to do with buying a new car, but I got a box of choccies from the dealer just for having a service with them

i got a nice little box of mint sweets with my last service....

Yup I get the little tin box of mints with each service.

With previous new vehicles I got a soft toy fox (Vauxhall) and nothing (VW).

Last 3 cars not a thing! Guess its a sign of the times.

Never bouught a car from Stealership before, but had plenty of services carried out.
What do I always get for free ???...................

..............an argument!!!

My wife isn't into the flowers bit so they had a bit of a think - saw her eyeing up a nice model of her car on a wooden plinth in a show case - and gave it to her - which she was well pleased with.

Chocs and flowers now worth more than the Jag

MB Flask and some MB Choclates for the wife. I only threw the chocolates out a week or two ago though as we never ate them!!

We only used the flask a couple of times but it was rubbish - zero heat retention. I called their parts department, posted it back, and they sent back a replacement.

The replacement is great and so now use it every week whilst Baby D is at dancing class as there's nowhere to get a drink!! I probably look a bit of a Nobby Dazzler drinking out of an MB flask though!! :D

MB Boiled Sweets always go down well with me, and are usually found on the front passenger seat when the car's been in to the dealer.

Vauxhall dealer used to give us a nice big bouquet with each car - from the poshest florists in town - even with a second hand Astra!! They do it for all customers - maybe as they were a family run business rather than a faceless PLC?

My father-in-law changed cars regularly when he was working, and the dealers kept him really sweet. Lots of days-out for 'good customers' and the like - he even has a branded winter jacket from most of the posh marques.

In fact Mrs D still uses his Jaguar jacket as her emergency winter coat we keep in the car over winter. :D

I got a free doughnut at the Ford garage. Which I actually preferred to the croissant from MB, but these were "buying" 'gifts'. When I came to collect the MB (both models) I got a hardback history of MB book, which was nice and went promptly onto eBay (the shame) but no flowers - odd that.

When I acquired the Ford it came with a keyring, which interestingly I didn't get from MB. But I did get the "official complaint received at MB HQ" keyring which was really nice and I still have it. After that episode I had a free MB pen which again I still have and use. And an umbrella from the dealer when they finally fixed all their issues and damage - grrrr.

As for Ford, haven't been back since as I hate the dealer. Ooops

Bought a Saab once(didn't last long) got a weekend in a country hotel all expenses paid. That was nice.

I got a couple of free trackdays with each new Lotus Elise and one was an invite to a specific "ladies only" trackday so my g/f could try driving on track. That certainly impressed her! I also got a free Lotus jacket with the 1st car. Landrover/Range Rover used to leave a tin of Fruit sweets in the Disco after each service which was nice. Still building up to seeing what the local Merc dealer does at service time. (would settle for a nice discount!!)
