First time ever attempted one (want to do it more for challenge value than any cost saving)

Have had a browse through the Haynes manual....looks easy enough (famous last words)

C180 '94 Manual

By the looks of it I will need

Consumables:

Oil Filter
Oil (der - suggestions of grade and quantity required please)
New washer to replace on drain plug

Tools:

Oil filter cap tool( Is this essential? best alternative?)
Gloves
Large, low pan to collect oil in
Container to dispose of old oil.

Anything missing?

Should I flush/clean the engine in between changing the oil or OK to just do an old out new in changeover?

Hints/advice greatly appreciated :)

oil change

You might have to remove a plastic sump guard to gain access to the drain plug,I run mine up on ramps then its easy.the other problem is removing the cap off the oil filter.I would make SURE you have a big six sided socket to take the oil filter cap off first.I belive halfords sell the cap remover.

best to do it while old oil is warm.... tbh, fairly simple on a C180... dont overtighten the filter, put some oil around the rubber ring on the filter to help it settle.... hmmm what else... think u have it covered otherwise. Your manual will state the correct oil... i usually use semi synthetic...
