2x E350 CDI Sport W212s... for a bit
Hi,

My front brake pin slider's on a W212 E350 Sport are frozen, at least on one side anyway. I am going to try to lube them but if I rip the rubber boots trying to extract the slide pin, I'll have to replace them.

Does anyone know of a good, reliable source?

All the one's I've seen are 'no name' brands, do you have any recommendations?

I suppose I could re-use the actual pin but just use new rubber boots...

Cheers

Your problem suggests the original ones were no great shakes in the quality department when it comes to corrosion resistance. Could aftermarket ones be that much worse. I can't say I've ever had badly seized pins, but I've always been able to re-use the old pins after polishing out any corrosion and lubing. It'll be the extent of damage caused getting them out that's likely to be the decider.

Is it that the rubber boot is stuck with corrosion to the pin that makes you think the rubber will get damaged on pin removal. If you can release that first, pin removal shouldn't damage the rubber boot.

The pins only slide if I tap them with a hammer. Happy to re-use the old ones once lubed but I'm worried that the 14 year old rubber will be damaged when I try prying out the pins as it's hard enough to get them to move at all let alone slide out gracefully so I can re-lube everything. I've ordered a better set of metal punches that should provide the right size so that I can 'punch' out the old pins, I'm just not confident that I'll be able to do it and if I tear something, I'll THEN need to order the new pins etc, and the car will be left on jack stands until they arrive....

So I wanted backups. Especially if the current, old ones are letting in moisture.

They lasted 14 years or so and were probably never lubed or serviced in that time, so I think that's probably a decent innings for the OEM stuff...

I ordered from brakeparts.co.uk after it was recommended on the ‘other’ uk MB forum

Fair to say mine are done… especially the top one. Was a nightmare to remove. You can see the tear that caused the corrosion in the third pic.

Just ordered a set for the other side too after properly seeing this. Probably should do all four eventually…
