Goodwill claim on body rust

E55 & Phaeton
On Jan 4 the W210 E55 went in for a time-based 2-year 'B' service (still had 4800 miles to go on ASSYST) and on the basis of members' experience I asked the garage to make a careful check for rust.

On Jan 11 the bodyshop asked MBUK to pay for repairs to all four wheel arches and one door frame because of corrosion, involving 20 hours labour.

On Jan 25 these items were approved as a goodwill gesture and the work will begin in two weeks.

Question is, will the rust return? I gather from this forum each panel is repaired one time only under the goodwill arrangement and it's not unknown for corrosion to recur.

The car's in excellent condition otherwise and I would like to keep it, but maybe not if this is going to be a perennial problem.

The bodyshop who did my W210 on behalf of MB have warranteed the work for 3 years, so i guess pressure could be brought if the rust did return , i doubt it should though if its been repaired correctly.

You might have read from a bloke on t'Internet :) that each panel is only repaired once but I doubt that information is correct.

Three years guarantee would be satisfactory and if I still have the car in 2011 I would be prepared to chance a stuffy answer from MBUK. The work is being done in the name of goodwill and doesn't qualify for the 30-year perforation warranty. The rust starts from the outside paintwork and goes down into the underlying metal.

It's a lovely car and I don't want to let it go! If I do I know I'll regret it forever:)

mine was done about 18 months ago and so far it all looks good.

My old E240 had a new front NS wing and a new bootlid back in 2003.

Still fine, my g/fs dad brought it over on Sunday. Now nearing 180,000!

This is the first time I've had a rust issue and hopefully the last. I suspect the Merc's sulking because I've started having an affair with two tons of Phaeton. It's having badge issues (so suddenly I'm not good enough - what's she got that I don't...?) and just lacks attention!
Still, nothing a cosmetic surgeon's knife and a touch-up can't fix...
