Hi,

My GoPro has just arrived and I also got the optional suction mount.

Just looking for any tips regarding mounting, placement or anything else?

This thing is like a rubics cube trying to get the different mounting bits right!

So far I think I will mount:

1. From the sun roof upside down
2. From the dash
3. From the rear bumper to get exhaust note
4. From front 3/4 before front wheel

But concerned about the external mounting so any tips greatly appreciated!

Ive only used the GoPro Hero 2 so far (the 3 is on the list) but have got some great results attaching it to the outside of the car. I dont like the view's from inside. I keep my car clean and polished and found the sucker mount to be excellent, never had an issue with it letting go or anything and ive been up to 150+mph (in Germany of course). Dont use it on a dirty surface, it wont stay there long.

The lower down the camera the better the effect, for speed anyway. Placing on the boot looking back or the roof facing forward always appears like your hardly moving.

The sound is the biggest problem, just this weekend I have been experimenting with external mic's, leaving the camera outside and placing the mic inside, on the back bumper etc. Wind noise is always the problem.

Mount it on the outside - if, like me, you're worried of it falling off, a small rope tied into the gopro casing and then secured somewhere on the car works wonders...

Gopro sell an official one as well if you want to pay more...

The only problem with the rope idea is that if the camera does come loose it will then bash the hell out of the side of your car until you notice, at anything over 20mph this is going to cause some damage. Personally I’d rather lose a £250 camera than have to get my door/wing repaired and re-sprayed :-)

Thanks all.

I've been looking at tethering, but was concerned what would happen... going to place on the nearside of the car to the verge / side of the road rather than the middle, so if it does fall off it will hopefully not got driven over!

They need to create an audible alarm for the GoPro app so your iphone chimes loud when it loses wireless connection.

I've got it suckered to my desk at the moment and there is no way it is budging so it does create a good seal.

Sound is another issue, but going to use the skeleton backing when the roads are dry which might help?

Shame I didn't have it yesterday as took a great drive from Macclesfield to Buxton across the A537 and then onwards to Chesterfield down some back country roads.
