Hi
Got our brand new gle yesterday, all ok.

Couple of questions pls:

Start stop, how the heck do you turn it off?

Day time running lights, how do you turn them off?

Car has reversing cam and parking sensors. Front one bleep at a good, easily audible leve, but back ones, can hear those but work at the last moment low sound. how do you turn up the sound on the rear?

Surprise additions to the car. I love the automatic revert to park from drive/reverse gears if you open the drivers door and car still in gear. Love the fact you come home, stop, just turn off engine, the gears go automatically to park and automatic activation of parking brake. Love the raod speed signs alerts and in the dash sat nav direction pointers. Btw, the car smells brand new leather

Thanks

Day time running lights I don't think you can... the good old EU at work again, the stop start, should should be a button on the dash to press, an "A" with an arrow around ut, if it's green it's on, yellow it's off, but you have to disable it everytime you get in it

Cheers SLKGirl - Tried that yesterday and tought it did not work as we were mainly on the motorway - will give it a go arund town tomorrow bearing in mind that we may need to depress the 'A' button every time i start the cat
Thanks

You likely will need to disable stop/start each time you start the car.

Not sure if that and/or the DRLs can be programmed out via STAR but you could ask the dealer or a local independant.

I quite like DRLs and fitted a pair of OSRAM ones to my Jag, can't switch them off unless the sidelights/headlights are on either. Start/Stop I can't stand though technology I can't stand though, colleague has that on his BMW.

I'd have thought the DRL can be turned off in the setting menu. They could on our B Class and our new E Class. Surely it'll be the same on a new model such as the GLE?

Lovey car BTW.

Ant.

Question. Why do cars have stop start? Surely constantly turning the engine on and off isn't good for it.

Its also really annoying on diesel's, can hear it miles away and its really not needed.

Most useless ******** in cars.

I don't think you can turn the DRLs off, they go off when you put the lights but you can if you have STAR set them to dim when you put the lights on. I believe it's a legal requirement.

Richard at Comand Online (He's on this site) will be able to tell you more.

That's easy... EU and their emissions laws

All this info is in the handbook which you definitely should read, lots of info in there regarding features of your car that you won't know about. Bedtime reading.

Driving lights I'm fairly sure can be turned off in the menus. Press the ECO button to disable start/stop, this needs to be done each time you start the car.

Thanks all.
Peter, me and my son read and read the "handbook," as we drove back from brum and read at home, tried the on-board info, no joy, hence the post.

Yesterday, it was my day off again, managed to turn the sat nav the right way up, ie as you drive, the pointer shows the road ahead at the top and not the bottom as it was originally set up. Then our son when he was back from work at 4 visited us and spent 30 mins with the onboard systems, no joy hence post and he is pretty good with techs and drives a high spec car - he feels the day time lights cant be turned off and not sure re rear parking sensors and volume.

Set the light welcome and exit lights, mlayed around with suspension settings, set up the raid and pre-sets, checked out the recline and fold settings to rear, getting used to the controls, especially the indiactors as set derrently to my c class - wippers different setting

nice touches as mentioned earlier, if you leave it in drive/reverse/etc and open the door, automatically reverts to park and handbrake is applied, a very nice safety touch as over the years i have left the car in drive a couple of times and got out.

I will start takinging to work a couple of days next week when I'm not visiting clients and then in a few weeks sell my c class as hoepfuly I'm used to the bulk of the car and driving down narrow side roads when seeing my clients.

Help is always appreciated and outstanding still the day lights, parking sensors voulme and the star/stop but I feel as slk said, will have to live with it.

thanks

Update
A bit more research on net and links to this and other sites re rear parking sensors and sound/warning levesl re the ML which the gle repalced ie car i have - a common complaint re rear sensors sound being low but nothing can be done about it.

Hi if the dealer you bought your car from is not too far, you can request a more thorough handover process.

They have different levels of the hand over process.

How can you hear a stopped engine miles away. Its only restarts when the engine is warm so almost instantaneous and quiet.

Update

Managed to locate the day time running on/off and turned off but did not bother to get out and have a look.

Car drives really well for a big car.

Thanks all for your help.

Why do you want to turn off the day time running lights ? I see them as safety feature and even on my 911 that I dont have them I always switch on the lights day or night ..

As for the Start Stop when you get used it you will not even remember that is there. My dad when we gave them our A160/W169 with start and stop at the begining he was asking the same question. He was not comfortable but after a while he got used to it. The starter motor is design to last a lot longer when you have start/stop and will only work when a set of parameters are met. And by the way it looks like all new cars now have start and stop....It makes a lot of difference when you are stack in traffic by the way...

Regards

Theo
