I was driving back from Luton to Hertford today along the A414 coming out of Hatfield and it was reduced to single carriageway, happily sitting following the cars in front when a Subaru WRX comes flying up behind me and sits inches of my rear bumper. I just ignored the little **** until the carriagway opened up into 2 lanes again and as I am going past the slower traffic he is actually trying to make a 3rd lane and get round me. We came up to the roundabout and as we came off the roundabout he makes 1 lane into 2 and scrapes his car along the crash barrier.
Now you would have thought that as he sped of I might have realised something was drastically wrong with this bloke but instead I gunned it down the road after him:confused: I caught him up as he hit traffic and he suddenly slows down so I went down the inside lane with my window open ready to give him a mouthfull. The passenger leans out shouting something and pulls a handgun out, points it at me and fires. I don't think my brakes will recover from the roasting they got and neither will my eardrum. Obviously he didn't hit me and just sped off again.
I thought about giving up there and then but being a bit daft I decided to catch him up and ring the Police. I informed the police what had happened and when I and couple of seconds later when I gave then the reg No. the operator pointed out that I should immediately drop back as the car had been used as a getaway car in an armed robbery a little while earlier.
It explained why this idiot drove like such a complete idiot and it also made me think about my own safety, something I never really do. It has really hit home that I may have been seconds from a bullet through my head, might have just been a blank shooter but still very very worrying. My wife has been in tears and when I got home and looked at my children it really hit home.
Things are just getting too dangerous out there and unless something drastic is done fairly soon I can just see a country with complete lawlessness, something I don't want to see my children grow up into.

Lets all be carefull out there

Good to hear you'r Ok, I bet that woke you up a bit. Next time steer clear and use the phone.

Hi,

Most importantantly you are OK and all of us may/should (based on your experience) think twice before getting involved with other motorists.

All's well that ends well.

Cheers,

Damm... That's less than 3 miles from me !!

Glad you're OK.

It is very difficult to hit anything with a handgun, especially from a moving base....I understand how it feels though..

Jesus Marcos thankfully you are OK.
There are so many lunatics around that sometimes you have to read more into a situation than you should do to prevent incidents like this happening. Last week two of my guys came into work. They cycle in on push bikes. They are just coming up to a set of lights on the A13 in Barking and there's three guys shouting at each other from their respective cars. Then one jumps out with a bloody handgun. Needless to say they did not hang around to see the outcome. Unfortunately this crap seems to be happening more and more often. Even today one of my guys Alan who is two short of a six pack pops into the garage just down the road to buy his daily sport and again is on a push bike. He goes to ride out and there's two big guys in an enterprise rent a van blocking his exit. Well Alan meant to just think the following but being Alan he shouts it out. (come on you pr**k move you fu**ing van) he's skinny and 5'2". So guess what they chased him down the road trying to knock him off his push bike for gods sake. What the hell is this world coming to but just glad to hear that you are OK.

well, (and with I don't like Mondays playing as I type - really)
1) phew - too bl***y close!
2) good he got the crash barrier not the 320 - that could have been an interesting claim - "tell me again why you didn't get his details?"
3) wonder if you were told to hang back in case he accidentally got caught, said his girlfriend was driving / shooting / robbing and they didn't have his address....

Thank God that your ok mate - you had a very lucky escape.

glad to hear your ok mate.

brings back to reality that the world isnt always safe!

Thanks for the concern guys.

At least I know that after 60mph a E320 CDI makes mincemeat of a WRX, probably a different story if it was the STi version.

My wife just caught me typing this and it me very hard, I love married life:D

DAMN

Something like this happened to me once, minus the gun...I was on the M1 with the 500E in the fast lane and some idiot in a golf came RIGHT behind me...nearly touching bumpers...so I floored it and changed lane, he floored it and went past, he went to the car infront and did the same, so I went back into the fast lane and caught up with traffic, crusing, as everyone sits in the fast lane.. and went behind him and caught up to him...he tried flooring it and then suddenly he slammed him brakes, swerved into the middle lane and tried to swerve into my merc, of which I am thankful its V8 and got good brakes, then he tried to go behind me again and smash into my car...F**KER! He then tried to go into the middle lane...opening his window..mouthing off and trying to swerve into my car (I was in the fast lane so could only floor it and go forward or slow down)...if which my wife forced me to slow down..which I am thankful for!

...People these days...fooking crazy..

It's not good - armed robbery etc. But. Hello? The guy tried to make an extra lane scraping his scooby along a barrier. I mean hindsight aside, I think I would have assumed criminal - stolen, joy rider, get away car, whatever, called the police with the location and gone about my day.

No he should not be able to shoot you, yes I would love him to be caught, but come on people, I'm not hearing any street sense on this forum!!

Mercs these days come with so many options on the options list... The one that's missing:

Mercedes Shotgun

That's the trouble Graham, I've been in many sticky situations but the red mist descended and all logical thinking went out of the window. It kind of scared me that to think my temper could have quite easily got me shot. Maybe something like this will calm me down a bit.

 WTF, glad you're okay, can't believe what's happening...

Leave the little sods to it. Probability states that eventually they'll hit something solid like an artic or concrete parapet, and presto, problem solved.
