Got Shot at today

Marcos, you are one insane person! but... considering you didn't get hurt, and I haven't been able to identify you mentioning holes in your car... WOW! Seems straight out of a movie!

That just means they're no longer available for olympic pistol shooters, target shooters etc.:)

Actually.... the home office has passed an "exception" to that law specifically for the 2012 Olympics... A nice fresh "batch" of pistols will come into the country a couple of days before the Olympics; they will be stored in a safe room under armed guard at Heathrow airport until the events, when they will be transported by in an armoured van, protected by armed police to the event ground. The events will take their course, and then the handguns will be re-exported out of the coutry.

This comes off a clarification letter thats handing down at the shooting range where my college's RPC goes to. If you want I can get some more "accurate" info (like a scan/copy) of the letter) next time I pass by the range.

I don't know about middle aged and middle class, the amount of macho threatening behaviour I read about on this forum lately, I start to wonder whether the pot is calling the kettle black!!

No I'm just fed up with the arrogance of some people, why do some people think it's alright to have negative, antagonistic veiws and not get some form of comeback. If we all aired exactly what we thought we'd probably all be getting shot at. Except for John of course as he has an uncanny ability to get away with it:D

P.S. Your Goodyears wear out so quickly because you drive to quick, now that I do know.:D

By the way Graham macho is not a word I'd ever use to describe myself.

:) :o But I have actually been shot at (with real, nasty guns), stabbed, hit over the head with an iron bar and several other incidents which we will not mention..... and the joke is I'm not the macho type. :D

I'm just so glad we are all here joking about it and not saying what a good bloke you were

Take care and very kind regards to your lovely family,
John

Sorry John. guess I still have the magic ability to put my foot in it:o

I can understand why people loose their cool when faced with twats on the road but I found out the hard way many moons ago that it is best to leave these idiotic road users well alone. Many years ago i was cut up badly by some prat and decided to give chase (as you do) and in the process lost control spun and hit a parked police car (off all things) writing off my brand new car......i was that close to smashing into a lamppost and very lucky not hit any pedestrians & very lucky to survive the incident uninjured!. Needless to say I got a punishing from the old plod! So was it worth loosing my temper beacuse of some prat?......NO and in any case as Sasha says what was the point? what would i have done once i caught up with the ****?

:D :D One lamp post killed by a BMW and a near miss by you.... What a day for lamp post posts

Your incident must definitely qualify for a Hamlet Moment Advert. Was the Police Officer in the car? :) Shouldn't laugh, but I can't help it.

Of all the cars in all the World... You had to choose this one. (said in a Cassablanca Humphrey Bogart type voice)

Sasha has a point as everyone out there is more or less "tooled up" and guns these days appear to be more of a fashion accessory and any idiot can just pull the trigger and within a fraction of a second its game over for the recipient. If someone wants to be an idot on the road and tailgate you then just simply move out of their way when safe to do so if your concerned about protecting your car form damage and your OWN safety!!! This is a simple situation that can eaisly be diffused by not reacting to it.

Yes most definitely a Hamlet moment! The policeman was in the car and was taken in suffering from slight head injuries if i remember correctly! They were about to set up a speed trap (and i ruined that plan for them) at least that's what i read in the local newspapaer.

's funny John, we seem to have rather a lot in common.

I too have been shot and I have been stabbed no less than four times now. The weird thing is the more I seem to get stabbed, the less I am afraid of it happening again. Just lucky so far I guess.

That is true but dependant on the situation its all too easy for the red mist to come down.

Wish I was. I can honestly say that each time I thought it would be my last, and anyone that lets this so called 'red mist' dictate their actions is not perhaps acting rationally??

This so called road rage is sad, and something I have difficulty getting my head around. I personally couldn't give two hoots who wants to overtake me, pull away from traffic lights before me, or whatever. Life is just far to short. No doubt I'm not explaining myself, I'm in pain, depreseed and off to bed.

Goodnight all

John the depressed but content:rolleyes:

My post was intended to illustrate that the current gun laws only keep handguns away from legitimate users. With the way things are going, Marcos was "lucky" only to be faced with a handgun. It could so easily have been an Uzi or some other type of machine pistol.

I know about the rules for the Olympics but it would be too far off topic (probably off forum) to start a general discussion on gun laws.

How come you two have been stabbed and shot and battered then ?

Sp!ke, i've met you and you don't seem the type .... mind you living near Ham, i suppose its par for the course .....

John, are you an ex SAS chap by any chance ?

It's not good - armed robbery etc. But. Hello? The guy tried to make an extra lane scraping his scooby along a barrier. I mean hindsight aside, I think I would have assumed criminal - stolen, joy rider, get away car, whatever, called the police with the location and gone about my day.

No he should not be able to shoot you, yes I would love him to be caught, but come on people, I'm not hearing any street sense on this forum!!

Totally agree with you. Marcos could have been killed but still went on to say "Well my car made mincemeat of the Subaru". This is the sort of attitude that causes much grief on the road.

I suffer from red mist and am known among friends for having a short temper on the road. It is NOT because I wish to drive faster than everyone else or because I think I rule the road.

It is becuase I'm sick of people speeding around built up areas and driving without regard for other road uses. and getting away with it!

My road is used as a handy cut through for other drivers and some think that driving at 40mph + down the road is acceptable. My girlfriends parked car was written off becuase of excessive speed and a child was hit a few years ago. Most recently I witnessed a young girl walking down the road who decided to wonder into the road without looking but luckily the van driver was driving at the correct speed and missed her by inches. He was shaken up and the girl ran off home in shock. I really thought the van was going to hit her.

When I decide to let someone know that their driving is dangerous I'm normally told by friends etc to "ignore it and don't get so wound up, you're not some knight of the road" etc etc etc.

I'm not justifying chasing armed robbers but for gods sake its good to hear that there are people out there ready to stick up for their right as a road user.

Most sensible post for ages.

This thread has reminded me of the wise words of James May (of Top Gear).

He pondered the question: why are there so many idiotic drivers and dangerous drivers on the road. And then he concluded (and I am sure he is right) that these people are not idiotic or dangerous drivers at all. In fact, they are idiotic or dangerous people in every aspect of their day-to-day lives.

One of the natural phenomena of a forum such as this is that, by virtue of our desire to engage in articulate discussion (and our ability, of course, to use a computer) we are not a representative cross section of the whole of society. We are all in a class that is clearly some way above bottom (I won't say middle class, because this is not a socio-political anlaysis here). In my daily life, I don't encounter idiotic, angry or dangerous people; it is easy to assume they just don't exist in any great numbers.

But on the public highway it is different. Because, in this country, the possession of a driving licence is considered a right rather than a privilege that comes with attendant responsibilites, we all of us come into contact with the full spectrum of society in all its glory. We see the idiots and the nutters that are otherwise hidden from us.

That is why I find driving such a depressing experience nowadays. By being able to see the stunngingly high proportion of aggressive, selfish or downright insane people there are on the roads, it brings home to me just how truly dreadful a state this country is in.

Philip

good point philip.

Also stupid horrible people can make a lot of money doing stupid horrible things. Thus, you cant even rely on the prestige car driver being a normal person nowadays (ahem, 3 series, ahem ;) )
