Fitted the rear badges this morning....last Saturday took me most of the day wiring up the headlights (Canadian to Euro difference)...putting back all the wires removed for paintwork on boot and bonnet, i.e. washer jets, boot lights etc etc.
The badges were so efficiently gold-plated by a firm in Hertfordshire...one day turnaround and alot cheaper than other places....and they didn't ruin the new adhesive backings on the badges (E500 and BRABUS badges were purchased new).
To me gold badges are usually the kiss of death - but against that shade of green they really do work. The attention to detail Talbir puts into all his cars never ceases to amaze me - is a corner ever cut ?
no stencil, no nothing...the badges were new in chrome finish, stuck nicely to their original paper backing with all the correct spacing...so one can just pel and stick simultaneously. But came back from the gold plater all stuck to a piece of cardboard all over the place...so i lost all the original spacing and alignment.
so i just did it by eye this morning, no stencil no spirit level no nothing. worked out ok ! The most surprising thing was that the original adhesive still works so well...strong as an ox !
yes, E500 is facelift, 500e pre.....my car is in reality a pre but having done the facelift bits, it would look wrong with a '500e' badge.
talbir, you sure are a proper merc nut and particularly have a nice e500! just need your advise and help in obtaining lens to fit my recently acquired e500 from switzerland in order to pass the MOT.. any suggestions please?
Hi Talbir, long time no speak. I'm sure you've fixed this now, but the bonnet alignment doesn't look great from the photobucket pictures. Maybe it's just a trick of the camera.
