Just had my W208 3.2 in to Halfords for their "Fuel Service Plus" service which I booked on-line for the princely sum of......wait for it... 50 quid. It should have been 70 but they had a special on. Now this includes a fuel additive, fully synthetic oil and filter change. Correct me if Im wrong but I dont think I could buy the stuff and do it myself for that. I think someone made a mistake - but they honoured it anyway - well done Halfords Kettering

Was going to try them a while ago:
http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/general-discussion/117537-halfords-fuel-service.html

But the issue was they they were using part-synthetic oil; and if you wanted the fully synth stuff (ie if the car needed it) they were charging extra.

Seemed a bit expensive for an oil change + a can of redex/forte to me...

You can get an oil change for £25 with specials from quikfit/just tyres/national tyres etc... then pop a can or forte in with the next refuel and off you go!

EDIT: Just checked their site - still states:
Oil Change - Brand new oil using Castrol Magnatec 10W 40 part synthetic*
*Other oils are available at an additional charge
Are you sure you got full synth for £50?

Yes, I booked it at the beginning of December and when I got there I asked if it was fully synth;, the guys said it was but the web site had a mistake on it (it clearly said another 30 quid for fully synth for every other service but not for the fuel saver plus) but he said that as I had booked it he would honour it. I was going to buy the oil & filter myself but I dont think I could have done it for much less - Im a happy bunny :)

He's right, if you tick the box on the website to say your car needs synthetic the price stays at £50 and the discount increases from £20 to £42. Well spotted topjolly.
Also if the HC level does not improve you dont pay a thing!

I think the key is to use the web site to book it in and dont phone up for a price, once you've booked it i they have to honour it. I'm probably going to go and have my next major service done there too, prices are good and the service I got was great - I had them flush the cooling system and refill it too whilst it was in.

Interesting!

I had booked online, then called them to verify - they told me it would have been an extra £xx!

Will try again, I'm almost done changing the pump on probe2...

The halfords autocentre site mentions using an oil system cleaner as well as the fuel system cleaner (For the fuel service +) does anybody know what products they use?

I assume the oil system cleaner is a flushing product added to the oil before emptying?

So desptite being aware that the price was wrong, you still tried it on anyway, and then on phoning them were surprised to find that the price was actually what it should be?

No - I called to find out if I was going to get charged what the site says on page A or on page B...

I just noticed Tesco club card are doing a voucher swap for Halfords Autocentres this month. £10 in club card vouchers gets you £30 in Halfords autocentre vouchers.

Useful if you have an oil change due. This takes the fuel service plus down to 20 quids worth of club card vouchers. Bargain.
