Currently when I open my W211 with the remote key fob when its dark the headlights come on which is something I expect. What I dont understand is why the lights come on when I open the car during the day. Is there a setting I can alter or is it a fault with the electrics ?

On my W220, this is a setting configurable through the cluster, is under the "lighting" heading.

It is called "surround lighting" and is triggered by the light sensor.

As already said you can alter it/cancel it on the settings on the steering wheel.

Its the headlights that come on in the day when I open the car with the key fob. Had a look in the settings and cannot find an option for daylight operation ??

Did you find surround lighting in the settings section? Try turning it OFF. It should only come on in the dark, works also under an awning as the sensor is on the front windscreen.

If it goes off having reset the surround lighting then your sensor needs adjusting by the dealer as it is too sensitive.

FWIW, it's called "locator lighting" on my cluster. You would think Merc could stick to the same vocabulary on all their vehicles .
