Apple have annouced that they are unhappy with the roadmap for the PowerPC line of CPUs and will be switching to Intel shortly with transition complete in 2007.
It is unlikely that the machines will be pc compatible, however they will be using the same processors at the PC world to gain the most performance per watt.
They say that applications need little, if any work to be ported to the Intel system however millions of PPC based Mac owners have a reason to be nervous now - what will ensure that developers still write code for the PPC processor.
