Wow really appreciate your response that is a lovely car i wish i could afford it. Jst out of my price range its a belter. im not going to try and haggle because i dnt want to insult u by asking for it half price haha. thanks again for your response mate. good luck.

No probs. I should point out that I'm not selling it myself - just spotted it at a garage I pass occasionally. It was on the forecourt for £2995 the last time I saw it, yet it's on their website for £1995 - so there may still be some room for negotiation. They've had it for a few months now...

There was a recent thread by Sara123 saying she had inherited a W123 and that it would be for sale. Might be worth bumping up the thread or asking the mods for permission to send her a PM. She never said where in the UK the car was.
And welcome to the forum. I hope you find a car. I had a W123 a while back. They are wonderful cars.

I just looked and see that she only ever posted once .

The fact that she chose the user name Sara123 , rather suggests that she already knew the car was a W123 , despite claiming to know nothing about it .

There was one on Glasgow Gumtree some time back , with a very similar story .

The car was in unremarkable condition and the asking price unrealistically high (near three grand IIRC ) .

Dave Collins (based in Yorkshire) sometimes gets these cars in - although he breaks older Mercs for parts , he will sometimes get ones that are saveable .

His email is [email protected]

There is also Mark Cosovich in Swansea - he is a W123 specialist - although he spends his time restoring W123's to concours standard and sells them for very high prices , he just might have something available in your price range .

Mark's phone number is 01792 846888

Crossed my mind too, but could have been the first three (logical!) numbers that came to her mind for a minimum character user name and just coincidentally she named her own car!

From memory, the post on that thread seemed to imply that many who have a W123 to sell chance their arm a bit price wise, but that being in the right place at the right time can net a bargain. Reasonable summary?

Thanks to all for your replies you mercedes people are much more helfull than vw people. Hopefully i will become one of you soon! i will follow up the ideas you have given me so far much appreciated.

Cheers just messaged him nice car. Any ideas of cost on a respray? (bracing myself).

If/when you go looking, watch for rust. Not just cosmetic, but structural. There are some real nasty rust-traps on a W123 that are very awkward to sort. The front bulkhead is one (where the anti-roll bar mounts IIRC) and the panel that the boot lid hinges from is another. Welding the floor or sills is a breeze compared to spots like the above.

still looking! someone sumwhere must have one in the garage in the whole of the north of england haha.
Regard Richard

Why buy a car that needs a respray when you could buy a good one for similar money? The Hearing Aid beige number at the beginning of the thread looks ideal

If £2k is too much I wouldn't buy a cheap W123 - it'll bleed you dry and still be worth nothing. Buy a decent one

Hi Richard, That blue one on Ebay went for £552-50, taxed till April, MOT October---------- what a nice cheap motor car !! I am sure I could have easily lived with the keying marks for that sort of money. Did you bid at all??

A bit late to this thread.
