Hello I am pleased to join this very informative forum.
I have read many posts over the years but I need some help so decided to ask here to see if anyone can help.
I am a big Mercedes fan and have owned 3 so far: 190 Cosworth, currently own a W202 C230 Kompressor and a W211 E320 CDI . All 3 have been great cars with excellent reliability (especially the Cosworth - did 120K miles in it only issue was MAF failure & would still have had it if a bus hadn' t squashed it).
Tonight while driving home from work (W211) the steering wheel buttons would not work, then after 10 mins started working again for the rest of my journey (5 mins). Later tonight when I went out again the buttons would not work again (all buttons up_ down +/_). Any ideas what the problem could be?
- Since they stopped working then started working that sort of rules out a blown fuse.
- As far as I can make out from the forum, the steering disc (clock spring?)could be the issue, but I have read that usually the SRS light comes on if that' s the case. Is that correct ?
- Another post I read with a similar issue suggested low battery voltage and another suggested re- setting the CD player could resolve?
- Guess a loose connection somewhere could be the cause, but where would I start?
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks.
