please any help or advice will be gratefully recieved. my newly aquired car wont start! it cranks over for ever but will not start. while trying to start it a friend came round and pointed out that there was no fuel showing in the clear flexi pipe that ends with what he said was a no return valve? i got a new pipe from our local agent and proceeded to fit it, it was a bitterly cold day and when i got to the other end of pipe i removed the central bolt that holds both pipes in place, i dont know if i replaced them in the correct positions because it still will not start. the new pipe with what i think is the non return vavle on i fixed into the front hole closest to the radiater, can any one please tell me if its in the right place? It still does not get any fuel into the pipe? Regards Dave....

this weather does odd things.. my wifes car has been playing up too.. if i leave it for more than 48 hours I have to crank it for absolutely ages for it to go..

If you have no diesel getting up then try cracking off a nut at the high pressure pump to see if fuel is getting to it.

try filling the filter up with fuel too. This will help it bleed if there is an air lock.

gauge was showing quarter full, i then added another two gallons

it was a freezing cold day thats why i removed both pipes because i was scared of breaking them becase they felt really brittle,

thanks for that, but i am still not sure i put the pipes in there right location. can anyone tell me were the pipe with what i,m told is the none return valve should go in ite bottom location???

I don't remember exactly where they go but you cant really get them wrong as they are shaped to fit.

thanks again guys i will try to be more methodical when i venture out in the morning, ive noted all of your comments, thanks again bot if anyone does have a diagrahm of the flexi fuel lines it would be very handy...

I did the same last week with my E320 CDI Doc, the pipe I replaced with the T piece up to the bleed valve NRV on the top goes into the port nearest the engine block, not as it appears in the EPC. Note this is on the 320 CDI not necessarily the same, however once swapped back it started second crank.

Cold out ain'it.

thanks Jackie, i will have another go today, it was totaly iced up yesterday, and yes its definately cold. Regards Dave...

Guys the other problem i have is when i ring a garage to relate the problem they all say bring it in? "it wont start"

See attached files showing fuel lines.

You obviously have air in the system that could be a leak at one of the joints. For example some people have had problems with air in the lines depending if the car was facing up or down.

Wully your a star. No 2 diagrahm was the 1 i needed, it confirmed that i had replaced the pipe into the correct hole. still wont start but guy turned up primded the fuel lines with squirter oil can filled with fuel but low pressure pump not getting enough pressure opted for fitting new low pressure pump (on order) will keep you informed. Thanks once again. Dave...

Is the fuel filter full of fuel?

I doubt a lift pump failure.

i think it was? the guy primed the fuel lines with a squirty oil can full of fuel and the filter then cranked the engine, but it still did not start.

I once had this trouble with a 270 CDI. Make sure that the lines to and from the fuel pump are on the right way round. It is very easy to put them on back to front, I should know because thats what I did and spent for ever and 3 cans of easy start to get it to fire. With it being so cold as well make sure that your glow plugs are ok. Dont try to crank the engine over for ages as the heat from the glow plugs will die and then you will be squirting cold diesel into the engine. Also check that the leads on top of the injectors are on correctly and making good contact as if one is not, non of the injectors will fire.

Thanks for that Ian, its still so cold out there cant concentrate for long brain siezes up! Regards Dave...

Hi Guys i think ive got it sorted, fitted new fuel pipe from the filter, original one was just pushed home and held by the "o ring" with no locking tabs. then thel ow pressure pump was not getting anyware near the required pressure. so fitted a new one from Europarts. started 2nd turn of the key! obviosely tommorow morning will be the true test, but fingers and wallet crossed! will let you know the outcome in the morning Sunday.
