Hi guys,

I just want to put something in the boot of the widebody to give extra base..

In three of my cars I have vibe active subsall donated to me by my brother. I find these a bit too much and turn them down from the head unit to about half power!.. the 500E has an alpine one that Talbir had installed.. this is probably my favourite but cant find any on our favourite auction site.

So what do you recommend? i definately want an all in one unit as i hate clutter..

Dont want to spend the earth.. remember this car will spend its like mostly in my garage under a nice soft cover.

I have this in my coupe:

I paid £100 for mine last year, and it just about fits under the passenger seat (ok, it pokes out a little but its hardly noticeable) and so was easy to wire up and hide the cables etc under the carpets. It is far from being a monster, it just adds that extra bit to the sound stage to round it all off.

Similarly, I have this infinity unit in my Coupe.

One of the nice things is that it includes a remote sub controller. Bass isnt massive but it certainly transforms the audio experience of the car.

I had one of these (the white/clear colour) and sold it recently on ebay.
They are an excellent unit and provide a good bass note without blowing the windows out. The bass controller is also very usefull. You won't be dissapointed with this Infinity unit.

thanks, now just need to find another supplier... Car Audio & Security havent refunded me for an order that was cancelled in June.. how long does it take!

Jay, you never know ringing up to place a new order might just grease the wheels to release the refund? It is no excuse but cash is so tight in my business that we would be a little slower than we should to send out a refund this month, maybe they are in the same boat?

Just rang them, they say they did it on monday so am waiting until i receive before i place another order with them.
I was going to suggest i simply pay the difference for the sub but they say its already done.

Well, I know you have made it pretty clear that you want an all in one unit, but where are you putting it, in the boot? The Infinity is still pretty big, I'm certain you could find a small 8" sub and teeny amp including wiring for less than that and make it look nice and neat in there, just for example RE AUDIO RE8 S4 350 WATTS 8" CAR AUDIO BASS SUB WOOFER on eBay (end time 08-Jul-09 22:28:34 BST) & Phoenix Gold ZX250 on eBay (end time 10-Jul-09 15:30:22 BST) or Caliber Competition CA150 . VGC. 2X75+ WRMS. Great SQ! on eBay (end time 12-Jul-09 19:23:43 BST)

Also wanted to say you've put so much effort into the whole car (Becker and all :)), why skimp on an active bass unit, is it just for convenience of removal?

blimey im completely confused..

I think the infinity is still the best value at £165 delivered?

The pioneer looks very cool but £225 is a little too much and the slim blaupunkt one looks great for mounting under the parcel shelf (so can keep boot space) but then is it too weak in terms of power?

I have a Clarion in my Forfour with the Comand & it works very well & fits under the drivers seat.

Personally I think the Infinity looks a little too space-age if you know what I mean, but it is good value. A friend has one in his e36 and seems to get along fine with it. The Blaupunkt is indeed too weak and I think you would be disappointed with it. I know you aren't after ground shaking bass, just something that provides a little more depth and is compact enough to be tucked away.

The Pioneer has good reviews but it is pretty expensive in comparison.

But I can't believe I forgot about this! Fusion EN-AT1100 10" Active Subwoofer/SUB (Wiring Inc) on eBay (end time 27-Jul-09 15:30:20 BST)

Ok it looks a little in your face but for the price it is brilliant. It drops a lot lower than most active subs because the box design and port have had a lot of thought put into them. You could always remove the decals and spray the grill but they work brilliantly when placed in the corner of a boot with the speaker facing towards the seats/boundary and the port facing out into the bootspace.

Well i got my refund from car audio so i trust them again now!

Its between the Pioneer and the Alpine... The Alpine says 300W but only an 8" sub whereas the pioneer says 200W with 2 subs..

Price aside which is going to give better sound?

New Pioneer TS-WX77A Sub :) - ScoobyNet (I am not trying to be the link King, honest :)) quite interesting to read through though. As they say it is wide but it is extremely shallow. I would go for the Pioneer if you can afford it, it is the better sounding of the two, no question.

Can I also point out I don't get commission for recommending Becker & Pioneer.....;)

Ok ive ordered the pioneer..

Detomaso - you have cost me!! I was happy with my sony CD player... have never had to pay for ICE as i always just use whatever i ave lying around!

Haha I'm sorry, I'm sorry :D

I'm sure you'll be very very happy with the Pioneer and I'll try not to be a further drain on your finances ;)

Make sure you post up some pics when you get it installed :)

will do but by the looks of things its quite flat and long so the only place it can go is on the boot floor!
