I have just changed the battery on my 1996 c230k manual. The old battery was lazzy,on its way out. Took the good one from my 84 280se. Now the car keeps stalling all of the time! If I just start her up she will tick over at about 750, rev her up and on the down revs she drops to about 100 and just about keeps running, idles again at 750.
If I take her out for a drive, she just stalls all the time. The revs just drop away to nothing, even changing down she will stall. This eninge is allien to me, so its not like I can just turn a screw.

Any ideas?

thanks Paul :(

If this has only happened since changing the battery check the OVP relay and fuse.

There is a green relay with a fuse biult in 30a, just nr the battery. These seem to be ok, remove the relay and you can here a clicking sound from under the polystireen deeper in the boot. Checked connections in the area, everything seems to be in order.

Turned up the idle with the threaded cable adjustment, the black plastic part under the hood. I know its crude but just wanted to see what happened. Got the idle upto about 1000 and went for a spin. Over time the idle got less and less untill the problem just came back. The engine revs seem to be fluctuating abit also, which they never did before.

Check your alternator is charging OK and not faulty and that the engine earthing strap is making good connection at both engine and body points.

Sorted. Took back to the merc man and he removed the throtle body, cleaned it up and adjusted something call a pessim.... something or other (it controls the idle) he reset everything with his laptop and it is working fine again. No charge, which is nice.

Fingers crossed.
