merc clk 230
Hi Guys,

I am at my wits end. I own a Merc CLK Kompressor 230 cabroilet 4dr yr 2000. Just before I shut my boot the other day a cylindrical shaped item popped out of the lock. I have an image of the offending piece on my desktop and will try and post here (I am new to this!). It isn't snapped or anything, I some how caught it on a bag and it popped out of the lock.

Now that this device is missing from the lock I can not open the boot at all - not with the mechanical key (it simply wont turn - not because of rust or anything - but because the missing piece must form an integral part of how the lock operates). The electrical boot open button on the fob and dash do not work either and neither does the soft top work anymore. Oddly enough this did happen a few years back and a merc garage said as soon as the put the part back in place everything worked again, but I have not idea how they got into the boot to pop it back in & the garage is no longer there.

I have searched but can not find anyone else that has had the same problem. Anyone suggest a remedy?

My diary (among other stuff) is in there and I need to get in!

well i am going to give it a try Burger, thanks. Wish that the pic speedy biker posted had not been removed!

Just to summarise what that tread suggests is somehow removing the rear seats to get into the boot, undo some bolts and the boot and whole mechanism should come up.

I will let you know how i get on!

Are you sure it is from the lock - it looks like the plunger that pushes the bootlid partially open when you open it electronically.
Your metal key should still work in the lock, but the boot won't spring open by itself.
I think going in through the bulkhead is a nonstarter - it's a convertible.

No boot access from interior

Ok so I ditched work and thought I would try and sort this as its driving me crazy. I have just finished romoving the rear seats but there is no access to the boot that way.

Wish I had looked at these pics before I started. http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/electronics/65169-alpine-n099p-install-photos.html

Anyways, any suggest what to try next? Surely I am not the only one to have had this problem?

Stuart, put the metal key in the lock (normal 12 o'clock position) and turn it 30 degrees anticlockwise, then press the lock in. This should release the lock mechanically - independent of any electrics or pneumatics.

I think that because the plunger has fallen out, the vacuum pressure in the plunger cylinder cannot build up sufficient to release the actual lock.

Edit: what the f*** is 'vacuum pressure' - you know what I mean!
