Help!!! Snapped Glow Plug!

Cheers Dieselman, Oh and wallingd Any need for the sarcasm? Was mereley making use of the SEARCH function and trying not to clutter the forum by posting a new thread......

Dieselman, whats all this about a tubular drill guide?

Mike

There is a proper guide but a bit of tube will do. It stops the drill slipping sideways as it can be held close to the work.
Just drill it out nice and slowly staying just inside the threads, then chase the threads out with the tap. The rest of the plug should then be free.

Thanks Dieselman - I take it I can then use an "easyout" to get the rest of the plug out once the threads have released it?

Mike

Thought I'd ressurect this thread rather than star a new one. I have a 2203 c220 cdi. My garage just told me that one of my glow plugs has snapped off. I wouldn't have known otherwise, car droves fine. Question I have is what is the risk of driving with a snapped glow plug? Will it do any damage to the engine?

It can fire out under huge pressure.

Quite likely to put a hole in your bonnet if it does go.

Get a thread repair specialist to remove it.

depends where its snapped, if it was me I get it changed out as soon as. can you get a picture, might be able to offer more help.

Reported.
