Help your M157 live longer

With reply to the title of this thread!

Replace it with the legendary M156 AMG built in house lump 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍

Oh don't cry rog for God sake 🤣🤣🤣

Who's crying?
Why do you do it?
Thread going along nicely and you come in with another pointless M156 comment.
I've lost count of the threads you poison with your inane remarks.
I'm ever so sorry Gaffa, to have a different opinion than your good self 👍😀

You'll enjoy the M113K.
Had mine 6 years and loved it.
I've been keeping an eye out. Was going to buy one and let my sister in law drive it and pay insurance and road tax but she's gone and got herself an audi A4 so that's filibustered the m113k purchase for the foreseeable future 😪

Oh dear. That A4 is no comparison to an M113k

Your not missing to much in all honesty. Yes the 113k is a brute of an engine, but it's a one trick pony in my opinion. Straight line cruising monster. It's not set up for the twisties fun and games in w211 armour, neither is the 5 speed dinosaur gearbox. But as a cruiser, on a suspension front, it does it faultlessly well, also thirsty old girl.

If it's straight line brute force and cruising machine with a magic carpet ride, then the 5 speed dinosaur 🦖 is the one.

I've got the head gear and gloves at the ready 😀🥊

Agreed, at least i get to not spend more money on cars !

Definitely, I think your analysis is on point. Magic ride, probably beautiful characterful engine , with limited twisties ability. The thinking was definitely a nice comfy car with a brute of an engine.

Hey guys, a new m157 owner here.
I am definitely going to do this solenoid fix ASAP, but what concerns me most is that the idea behind unplugging this solenoid is to make it push the correct oil pressure all the time. But it will work ONLY if the solenoid is in good shape. If it is already stuck in the wrong position, unplugging it won't change anything, right?
So I guess the good idea will be to change this solenoid as well, just to make sure it is in the correct position, unplugged?

Yeah i don't think the m178 in GTC has cylinder deactivation. The m177 E and S class and GT 63 and S do in eco mode
No, that’s right, it doesn’t. The M178 has glide mode (coasting) but not cylinder deactivation.

I may swap my m3 over for an E or even CLS 6.2 shooting brake (as long as they come with an MCT rather than older torque converter) .
Unfortunately, I believe that the 6.2 naturally aspirated (M156) was only available in the first C219 generation CLS.

There wasn’t a shooting brake until the second C/X218 generation CLS and that came with the 5.5 bi-turbo (M157).

Hi Folks,

New to the forum (hello!). I recently picked up an E63 AMG W212 M157 with 100k miles and this was on my list to get done. You might be interested in the pictures below of a high mileage example, it's not pretty! It looks to have been plugged in all its life, and what a mess it has created down there... This had been left alone for a long time and it was just seeping out oil into the surrounding area, glad I caught it... (and yes, I found oil in the cam position sensors, that's all done too!).

It may not make a huge difference after all these miles - but in my opinion, after understanding what this disables (or enables depending on how you look at it), it just makes sense! I'll report back if I have any problems with it.

Cheers,

Tom.

Quick update after a handful of miles:

I noticed all the differences everyone else has, quicker warm up (I timed this and ran the exact same road in a morning several times over to prove it!), smoother running, etc. Which is great!

The one thing that has changed, and that I don't think anyone has posted about, is the amount of residual oil in the pan when running at the increased pressure. I believe that there will be less due to the increase in oil being constantly used around the engine, happy for anyone to come in on this and see what they think.

The reason I believe this may be true (needs someone else to verify too), is that the "add 1 litre engine oil at next refuelling" indicator came on ~700 miles early compared to the last several fills. When I check the level at stationary it was what I was expecting and had not gone down drastically, I track the oil usage and count the miles in between fills to check if anything major has happened or if I am burning/leaking too much oil, and I was into a routine of similar distances between fills, until now.

I will report back to see if the next "add 1 litre engine oil at next refuelling" indicator comes on when I expect it should!

Thanks,

Tom.
