Hi All - Newbie who works for MB

I need to replace the bottom ball joints and castor bushes, but have been tod it could be cheaper to replace the wishbone if these parts are supplied as an assy. Could you please confirm if they are an assy and what the price would be for a 1999 E280 W210. And welcome to the forum. You wont find any lions in this forum, just the odd pussycat called Pammy!!!

I've been watching this thread with interest. A very welcome new member indeed.;)

Hi pietre
Facelift or pre they changed on may/june of 1999 - Also are we talking fronts or rear torque arms???

Front Stuff
either way front ball joints are same for both models and also seperate to bottom arm. Ball joints aren't sided and they have been superceeded to a later 211 part number A2113300335 £23.17 each + v.a.t.
Merc have had major problems with quality of ball joints of late (I'm sure most of you are aware) I was out in stuttgart a month ago and this was bought up in conversation, They have changed supplier again and we should see some ball joints coming through now that will last more than 6K !!

PREFACELIFT !!!! i.e. before may 99
Bottom Arms dont come with the ball joint as an assembly but the inboard bushes are part of it as the assembly Part number A2103307607 n/s and A2103307707 o/s £183.77 each

FACELIFT after june 99
Part number and pricing is the same as above unless the vehicle has code (450 was a taxi !!) Germany only as special order £179.45 each

Hope that clears that up,

REAR STUFF
Rear lower torque arms (rear axle N/S looking at the wheel its the 2nd arm in from the front of the car ??? 1st one is thrust arm 2nd one is lower torque arm) are an assembly with ball joint and come as a kit at £30.33 +

wish I could post pictures of this computer screen it would be loads easier to explain LOL...

Thanks all for the welcome, I'll be checking back regularly through the day whilst I'm at work anyway

It's a facelift model. the local $tealer wants me to buy two kits at £31.14 ea to replace the castor bushes, but they want 4 hours to fit them, thats why it was suggested to replace the assy with the parts already pressed in as that would take 1 1/2 hours to replace saving £250 in labour charges, but obviously that depends on the price diff in the assy's. I dont like buying other than genuine parts as the warranty is so good, and I get 10% discount for club membership.

right got it now

Genuine MB bushes list at £44.20 + v.a.t which as you say will need to be pressed in.

Arms complete are as quoted above.

We reckon 1 hour a side to fit + the necessary pressing etc...(say another hour for messing about pressing) 3 hours total !
4 hours sounds a bit on the steep side to me

I had a wood/leather steering wheel for my R129 priced up ... the total including airbag and VAT came to £2,400!

Just be glad you guys are running the modern stuff .

A while back one of my friends was quoted £6000 for the centre section of his Ponton bumper from the Oldtimer Centre . If you need a complete bumper there are still the two corner sections plus the 'horns' (overriders in english) !! You could probably buy something like a new Golf for the price they would want.

Fortunately , it is a LOT cheaper to get them replated .

Welcome to the forum, although at this rate I fear you'll be spending an awful lot of time answering queries us.

Still, if it generates sales for your branch, that should keep the boss happy!

Don't mind answering queries at all, keep 'em coming I'm only too happy to help...

Not intending on turning this into an on-line parts counter but if any-one does want me to order and post anything I can do.
I'm sure that your local dealer's should be very helpful, friendly and offer huge discounts (joke)

that should keep the boss happy

LOL - I am the boss...
but i'm sure Bill Lockerbie @ DCUK would be happy

welcome Jay73 its nice to have a MB dealer on board :) one question...
on a 1998 C250 TD, has there ever been any known problems with the MAF? seems everyone i talk to has either replaced it or cleaned it, except me :S

Welcome Jay73 - definitely a bit of positive PR that dealerships acknowledge the existence of forums and have started moving into the 21st century where they realise that pure TV marketing alone is not going to drive customers into the showrooms...

Hi all,
I've actually finished for the day and am replying from home (been out enjoying the sun on my bike)
I'll reply to this little lot tomorrow !!!

From an MB dealer point of view I'm not officially here, Don't think half the staff have heard of a pc never mind a forum !!!

I certainly see the potential though, I'm not registered on any other forums as judging by the response I've had on here I wouldn't be doing much else all day apart from being on the net!!

Solely a MBClub UK member !!! and I intend to keep it that way too...

p.s. I did buy the W201 I posted about in another topic, watch this space !!! Wonder where I can get some cheap parts !!! LOL

Just had a thought and I mean no dissrespect to anyone but if all the Parts Managers at the dealers were to become members look at the business they would get. It would be like having your own parts manager 24/7 :D Get enough of them and they could have their own section :bannana:
