Just for my info - does that mean the car is now a Cat D write-off....and does anything need to be done to make it officially OK to drive (apart from the MOT)?
It isn't a right off or categorised as anything. Think of it this way, the insurance company didn't want to pay through the nose for their repair shop to-do the work and didn't want to argue with me about it's cost if it was to be a right off. So, they returned the car and gave me a payment in lieu so I could get it fixed elsewhere.
They declared the car as being road worthy so no follow-up MOT was required. I got one done anyway as the car was due an MOT next week and I wanted piece of mind.
