With so many people on the forum having brushes, shunts, bumps and accidents, I knew it was a matter of time before it was my turn!

One evening last week, my Dad took my car into town to see a friend of his and parked on a main road in a parking bay. He came back out after 30 mins to find a pile of glass behind the car and a big nasty graze on the back bumper.

Shock horror, no insurance details or nice note under the windscreen wiper from the other driver and a nice fat insurance claim for me. Lovely. Bloody inconsiderate git.

Pic below..... Looks worse than the picture and I can get my finger fully in the gap between bumper and panel. Luckily, its not as bad as some members have suffered recently.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Luckily, th damage doesnt look too bad as you say. The bumper is relatively easy to re-align if its just dropped a bit as its held in place by only four bolts (if its the same as on mine). Best guestimate from the picture is about £300 worth of damage....certainly not worth involving the insurance company anyway.

I think I can on mine anyway!! Not the best area on a W202 at the best of times!!

At least is is not too bad. A realign and a bit of spit and polish and it wont look too bad - up to you if you want it perfect again and fit a new bumper.

I feel for you anyway :(

Gutted for you.

Some piece of scum has given that a right belt, not just nudged it parking.

Thats what pi$$ed me off, its not just a scrape, its a hard whack and its actually dented the bumper and then decided, what the hell, I'll keep going!

Thanks Graham. The other side alignment is pretty flush. I'm going to Merc at the weekend to see how much they quote and will then decide whether its worth claiming off insurance or not. I'm going to sell the car after Xmas anyway so don't really fancy spending a great deal of cash on it to be honest.

Some git did this to my car about 18 months ago.
I removed the bumper to check for damage, refitted it properly aligned again and then had a mobile painter spray the bumper.

The bumpers can have quite a lot of vertical movement on the bolts.
I would be surprised if there was any damage behind as the bumper is packed with polystyrene pads to act as crumple pads.

Cost £70.

The bumpers got a bit of a dent in it, but don't think theres any damage underneath it. Luckily, the rear panel or light wasn't touched.

Sorry to hear your news m8. I'd be fretting for weeks if it was me! Scumbag. I bet he\she was driving a right heap and couldn't care less.

Someone did something similar to my sister. As there were presumably people watching, they even 'went to the trouble' of scribbling on a piece of paper and putting it on the windscreen wiper - of course, it didn't say anything.
