Well it had to happen sooner or later. Lovely sunny day, decided to do the school run in the SL.....

So there I was waiting in a queue watching the approching car in my rear view mirror as you do, only to see to my horror that she was busy looking in the shop window to the right and then the inevitable bang.....

Low speed impact fortunately, looks like only paint damage, the bumper must have flexed inwards and then popped back, no splits or cracks in the plastic which is just as well as the bumper is NLA. Doesn't appear to be any other damage, checked the boot floor, rear panel etc and all ok.

Got on to Qdos who deal with non-fault claims so hopefully she will play ball. She said she wanted to go through her insurance so fingers crossed. Just hope I can get it sorted before anyone wants to come and look :wallbash:

Could have been worse

Feel for you though

Yep.

Getting rammed from behind when you don't want it would be terrible.

Fingers crossed mate, god luck!

That's bad luck Leigh. Sorry to see this.

Maybe it's nature's way of telling you not to sell?

Just beware that there is usually a deformable beam along the inside of most rear bumpers these days. This is a sacrificial component to absorb the energy which would otherwise transfer to the boot/chassis/etc. Make sure this is inspected because if it has taken the brunt of the impact it will need replacing.

Yeah I guess I was lucky, it's just a pain in the backside sorting it. Still there was a small scratch on the corner of the bumper so that will be taken care of :)

Cheers Keith, I had already thought about that. I know the bodyshop where it will be going, he's a very godd friend of mine. I'll make sure they check it carefully.

Did you say 'bugger' when it happened ?

Bad luck, but at least only low speed impact and nobody hurt.

At least for once you got hit by a person with insurance or prepared to use their insurance, my wife has been hit twice, once by an uninsured driver so she lost her no claims and once by a driver with insurance apparently but wouldn't give the details of it, nightmare that was.

When my car was hit by a scaffold pole that fell of the back of a lorry I chased the driver down but he gave me false details, reported it to the police they found him but it became a no further action case because it was a traveller and too difficult.

So all in all you got lucky really! but I bet it is a pain anyway.

Why did you contact Qdos? Why not just inform your insurer?

Because it was a non-fault accident on my part. I don't want to claim on my insurance, i want to claim on theirs.

Had a phone call from their insurers earlier, they have admitted liability so thats a start :)

P.S. Thanks to whoever has been messing with the tags :D

Leaving aside that you still need to inform your insurer that you had an accident

It wasn't a silver W202 by any chance? :p My other half's mother hit someone's rear just the other day...

I didn't have an accident, they did.....

Iv'e used Qdos twice before for non fault accidents that happened to my company vehicles. I notified my broker who told me there was no need to inform my insurer as they would be under no obligation to pay out for anything. Never had any comebacks about it.

It was a silver RAV 4.

But you will still have to tell your insurers so no gain there.

And now you have done your bit to push up the cost of insurance for everybody by involving an "accident management" company.

Why shouldn't I use them? Why should I be out of pocket for any costs? I was stationary in a queue of traffic minding my own business, she was too busy looking in the shop window opposite.

The whole point of using a claims managment company in cases like this is so that my insurance is not affected in any way.

Do you understand how insurance works? If an accident isn't your fault, your insurer doesn't make you pay. The other party's insurer pays - regardless of whether you involve an accident management company or not.

And, as I said, you will still have to inform your insurer regardless of whether you put the repair in the hands of another company.

The "whole point" of accident management companies is to load the repair with unnecessary costs that generate huge profits for them. And you might find (as many people have) that the other party's insurer will not meet those inflated costs and you could end up having to pay them yourself - so using an accident managment company might actually cost you money.
