Hit from behind

Unfortunately if you are asked to declare 'accidents' (as opposed to 'claims') in the last x years you will have to mention this incident. The insurance companies all swap data, so there'd be a reasonable risk that they'd find out otherwise. One 'no fault' accident shouldn't affect anything, but if you have a couple then it can increase your premium.

A terrible thing to happen to such a fantastic car. There can't be many left in that sort of condition.

Makes sure it is checked and double-checked, Leigh.

Good luck.

Do you understand how insurance works? If an accident isn't your fault, your insurer doesn't make you pay. The other party's insurer pays - regardless of whether you involve an accident management company or not.

And, as I said, you will still have to inform your insurer regardless of whether you put the repair in the hands of another company.

The "whole point" of accident management companies is to load the repair with unnecessary costs that generate huge profits for them. And you might find (as many people have) that the other party's insurer will not meet those inflated costs and you could end up having to pay them yourself - so using an accident managment company might actually cost you money.

No, I have no concept of how insurance works, I've only been driving for 28 years and run my own business with a fleet of vans:rolleyes:

I will be guided by my broker thanks, they have never let me down yet in over 20 years of dealing through them ;)

Interesting point, when their insurance company contacted me today they didn't ask for any of my insurance details.....

They wouldn't - the onus is on you to notify your insurer of any change to the terms under which you are insured.

Generally speaking, changes would include you getting points on your license, modifying your vehicle, changes to your accident history, etc.

This is particularly annoying if you have multiple vehicles, as for an accident on one, you will need to notify all your insurers of a change in the driver's incident/accident history.

Whether your current insurance is still valid after you notify them is another matter altogether. I don't see an insurer raising the current premium for 1-no claims accident... but have many of these, and it will a-raise a few eyebrows, and b-may lead to an increased premium. (and rightly so, because even if you aren't at fault, statisticaly speaking, you are "higher" risk as you have more no claims accidents than when your policy started)

Took the car to my chosen bodyshop today, waiting fo the engineer to inspect. It looks like the rear panel has been slightly distorted so will know more when the bumper is off.

I decided to take the opportunity to have the wheels refurbed while it was in there so they are off to my mate tomorrow who does metal polishing to be blasted and have the lips mirror polished, then back to the bodyshop to have the centres painted black to match the car

I bought some new centre caps too so looking forward to seeing how it looks.

Your car makes my wallet twitch. Although I'd never have time to drive it, I'd love to own that car even if only to look at it.

Good luck with the repairs, Leigh.

Lol, thanks Paul :)

Sorry to hear of your woes mate, hope you get it sorted. I think you're going about it in the right way.

Here are a few pictures of the wheels, I had to have them dipped in a chemical stripper to remove the old powder coat and then I had the lips diamond cut to remove some minor curb rash.

They were then mirror polished....

The faces were then bead blasted on a low setting to remove the final bits of corrosion and now they are at the body shop being painted 040 black in the centres

^ Nice,

I like the way the valve comes through a hole as its one of the split rim bolt.

Not sure about using them over winter though they look too nice :)

Thanks.

It doesn't go out much in the winter, especially when there is a lot of salt around, nice dry sunny days only! I just can't be doing with diamond cut and lacquered lips, they just don't last. At least with mirror polished they can be polished without having to refurb the whole wheel.
