Yesterday I was showing my new pride and joy to one of my friends whom I havent seen for a while, as I was showing him round when decided to pull the hood down using the remote control, now bearing in mind I have only had the car 2 months it was only the second time we had tried this hood as the weather has`nt been right for a while being winter obviously, during the mechanical operation once the canvas sits inside the loading bay and the boot lid comes back down, I heard a very squeaky noise and then banging thud, however the boot wasnt flush, so I reversed the operation and tried it again, this time it still squeaked but no thud, This got me quite worried almost wondering there was something in the boot, But even that was empty and the storage lever was pulled down to let the hood in.

My question is this quite known for this type of car, I mean hood issues, sorry the car is clk (209) only two month old from new. I`m not a fan of taking the car to a dealer as sods law it might not happen there and the dealer will fob me off.

Your help required, Thanks in advance

Hello :) Just one thing comes to mind, on many cars the roofs do not like going down when standing on a drive or road with a steep camber.

My boot will not close on my drive or on a camber.

Its better to cycle the roof every few weeks in the winter.

See how it goes

So would you say that the mechanics of the roofs should be tried say once a month just to keep it in going and running smoothly, the car was on a flat surface when it was tried and in park position.

I believe that it says in the handbook that it is better to cycle it a few times in the Winter months.

Many of these things that just happen once are impossible to find.

Open and close it tomorrow a couple of time to be sure

Haven't had this on our 80,000-mile 5-year old 209 cab. Maybe the hood was particularly cold and stiff?

Either that or it's out of alignment somewhere, and a trip to the dealers is needed - especially on a 2 month old car!!

if it was out of allignment would it not do it all the time, or do you think I should show it to the dealers for my peace of mind considering the age od the car.

Well I am always in 2 minds over these things, knowing some dealers things could be made worse if you get a bad guy, as you said its only done it the once, on a new car many parts could have just been stuck. If it does it again that is the time to go in my view

I get the same with my Audi.
First attempt at lowering the hood for a few weeks and the cover doesn't shut properly, at the second try it's OK.
If I lower the hood every day it's fine.

I think this is due to the cloth being too new and has not wrinkled at the points where it folds, therefore the hood doesn't fold up properly.

If mine continues I'll bring it up at the first service but my bet i that the more the fabric gets used to folding the problem will solve itself.

tried it again today, seems to be working fine, Thanks for your input on this one,:D
