Brighton.

Anyone know of a nice but not too expensive hotel we could stay at?

Daughters got an interview at the university so we thought we'd all go, it's a bit to far there and back in a day.

There's a travel inn at Newhaven - £45 per night

Sorry dont know about hotels, but my cousin lived there, I used to go to visit him there was wicked, there's a cool bar on the front cant remember the name, but they have chairs and things hanging from the ceiling for sale, also do great cocktails in jugs, I recommend long island ice tea ;)

You actually want to stay in central Brighton? Are you sure?

Brighton Hotel

The main University of Sussex campus is a fair way outside Brighton, its actually at a place called Falmer, about 3 miles from the nearest town called Lewes.

If its convenience for the Uni you want ,this might be the place to stay

The White Hart on Lewes High street is a good place a 16c coaching inn, and it has good parking for patrons.

One thing you shouldn't miss out on is a night out in Brighton though, there's all things for all people.

plus good trains between Brighton and Lewes which happen to stop at the Falmer Campus.

just a thought, good luck!

I worked in Lewes for a few weeks but stayed in Brighton as Lewes seemed to go to sleep after 9pm!

Honestly can't recall the name of the hotels we used - we tried a different one each week, and it was a few years back, so things may have changed. As I recall there are lots of good small hotels in the squares of the Prom, and we had the time to go and check them out. Most of them seem to be on this site -

We are in the process of the university tours for my daughter too - done Newcastle Nottingham & Leeds so far!

Hope you find something suitable - and hope the trip goes well :D

Whats wrong with the place, it felt safer to walk round the center of brighton at night than where i live in london and the bars less agressive than where I live. I liked it but I didn't live there admittidly. Just saying that I really liked it and i'm not thast way either and neither was my cousin! :)

Hi Simon, what do you call not too expensive, and when is it. Rob

Well there's 4 of us going & I was hoping to get two rooms for about £50 each. It's mid Feb.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, most helpful.

Our Uni circuit also includes Edinburgh, Nottingham, Sheffield, & Oxford.

I used a nice one near the Front. Acorn, Oak, something like that! Was a chain so you will find on net!

With a careful eye on the quality of her further education, my daughter seems to have ruled out Edinburgh as being 'too far, too cold, too hilly'

R u saying that to him because of the type person that's known for staying there?

Well, there are many who reckon that Brighton is one of the greatest fun places in the south. Certainly a great and diverse range of lifestyles as witnessed by the Brighton homepage

http://tourism.brighton.co.uk/

Equally, and perhaps for that reason, there are others who reckon that the best way to improve Brighton would be visiting some form of Old Testament wrath of God on the place. (Failing that, the hope that USAF will deliver a small thermonuclear device by mistake one day.)

I do not dislike Brighton. It can get a bit lary at times but then so can anywhere else. There is a lot going on.

No, what I really was asking is if a country hotel a some miles out would be more to taste. This gaff is outside Arundel (which is well worth visiting for itself) and is OK. About 20 miles down the A27, which is for all intents & purposes a motorway

Otherwise see links on the Brighton & Hove page above. No shortage of hotels to choose from

I've booked the Kings Hotel on Kings Road. £118.00 for 2 rooms and full English breakfast :bannana:

Thanks again.
