I'm sure it has been answered before but I can't find it. My COMAND 2.5 unit has started making a lot of whirring noises at the head unit, which I assume is the CD drive. I've got an official disc and it all seems to be working OK but it sounds to me like the drive needs cleaning.

Thing is, how do you do it. Inserting an Audio CD in there is useless so those head cleaners that 2play2 are no good. How do you do it?

Thanks but I was hoping I didn't have to dismantle the unit. If it needs that I'll ask Alfie. What I'm after is a CD-ROM cleaner as opposed to a CD cleaner that acts like a playable CD.

A normal audio cd cleaner should do the trick. It will try and read it and clean at the same time before it spits it out.

It could be that the COMAND 2.5 CD rom needs replaced, which is a common problem. It would cost about £150. If you need it done let me know and I will tell you who to take it to. Alfie doesn't do 2.5;) Failing that a new COMAND 2.5 can be had for £450, 45 mins to install.

update,:bannana: you can get it fixed for £90 in Essex .....Brentwood. 20 miles from you.
Has your Mercedes Comand 2.0 or 2.5 Navigation or Cd stopped working if so we can repair this for you

I had a problem reading CDs and DVDs in my W208's COMAND headunit. Playing a normal audio CD cleaner worked fine.

Well, a simple DVD/CD cleaning disc seems to have worked. No whirring now.

It did take a while to reinitialise itself once I had cleaned the drive and reinserted the TeleAtlas disc. Showed 0 Satellites and my location in the North Sea for a while. Then seemed to slowly pick up more satellites until it reached 5 whereupon it located the car's position precisely. Now showing 7/8 satellites.
