How do you fit the driver's footrest in a w126 ?

Hello all, I've got a 560 SEL that needs some TLC. Rather bizarrely the driver's footrest has been taken out by a previous owner but I did find it in the boot along with 3 screws and a metal ring. Thing is I can't work out how it fits in down there for love or money. I thought it would be easy peasy but for me it isn't ! Any help gratefully received.

Normally its fixed to the large carpeted panel to the drivers left iirc. When you take that panel off the footrest comes with it.

Thanks Ian, I'll have another look. I suspect that the previous owner has removed something else as well because there's nothing for the 3 screws to go into.
