Thanks all for sharing, it's good to see I'm amongst folk who like me, love cars. I've always had a complete fascination with them although I'm just as fond of avgas I simply can no longer afford to burn it.

Must admit too that I'm a little jealous looking at a few of your lists. My wish list just got a lot longer.

My C230k should be on that list!

I knew I missed one out, I meant to put that one, that means bar a 201 I have driven every Mercedes C class model then.

Bar yourself, was I the last forum member to drive that car? It was every so much fun that wee drive.

Silversaloon has missed my car on the list (e220cdi), I leant it to him and LTD at a meet in 2009. LTD leant me the S500L and Silversaloon the SL, twice.

You can gauge a lot of people's ages looking at some of the cars driven - especially when they appear in a rough date order...

:D

Numerous others missed I'm sure - mostly hire cars or similar. All the above have either been owned or driven on track days and I have no doubt I have missed a whole load from those days too. I notice I have not driven a Ferrari or similar, I suppose I ought to at some point.

I guess the winner of this particular thread will be someone ‘in the trade’ like Jay, but it may well be one of the guys employed to park new cars on one of these huge export ships. They must get through hundreds a day!:dk:
I must have driven a thousand different cars some of the more memorable being:

McLaren F1
Ferrari F40
Jaguar XJ220
Mercedes S, CLS, SL, SLS

I’ve also been privileged to drive a few Le Mans winners (although not at racing speeds!) including Jaguars and Bentleys.
The most surreal experience has got to be getting stuck in traffic in the middle of Monaco in Martin Brundle’s F3 car on the way back to the paddock! With the French plod blowing whistles and conducting the traffic and me trying not to stall this thing with the super sharp racing clutch…I remember thinking ‘Am I in the wrong play here!’;):o

Mercedes CLK 320cdi:)

Hire and courtesy cars, so no idea about realibility or ownership costs etc.
Mercedes A-class x 3 (ok, but would never buy one at current prices)
Toyota Camry 1.8 (underpowered and uneconomical, drove badly, horrid all round)
Skoda Octavia 1.8 (not as bad as you might imagine)
Ford Mondeo 1.6 (every bit as bad as you might imagine)
Bright orange SMART car - attracts more attention than any other vehicle I have driven:D
Vauxhall Omega 2.0L - quite a reasonable attempt at a big wallowy car
Mercedes c-class 180k (203 series) - quite liked this, but economy was dreadful for such a small engine

The one car I always wanted but never got round to owning was an Opel Manta GTE. Too old now: both me and the cars!:(

I was fortunate enough to have one as my first car.

In my list, it is third from top as I drove the other two cars first but the Manta was the first owned car.

Mine was also an Exclusive 2.0GTE - so had a different rear bumper / number plate setup.

Great when everyone else is running around in MK1 Fiestas / MK2 Escorts / MK5 Cortinas etc.

Wouldnt know where to start. Also spent a few years in States and used to shuttle cars for Hertz for extra money.

How did you start into the chauffering business?
i started out as the valeter when i was about 15 started out as just a weekend job and then summertiem came and school holiydays i was ther most days so must of been doing something good i guess as ive been there ever since i just love the satisfaction of detaliing a car thats come back ditched from a hire or when a costomer brings his/hers rolls/bentley in and needs it valerting to a high spec ie concours or just because they let the paint fade or leather get minging an i bring it back to life and as for the chauffeuring i just love to drive vintage classic and moden cars that i know i might never own and get paid to do so with out the worry of the running cost's and i get a big satisfaction of making peoples day/night ie a wedding birthday or justa special ngiht out

When I owned my Jag Sovereign in the 90s I seriously thought about doing wedding hire at weekends, but due to insurance costs I decided against it, but I wish I had now 'cos a friend of mine does it with his Bentley and not only gets his annual running costs covered but thoroughly enjoys the day! :)
