My Dad's 211 is currently at stealership undergoing a B service.
They are charging for 12 spark plugs. Is that right?

E240 V6 engine on a 52 plate.

Just about to ring them to query it, but is 12 right? I thought it was 6 ??

Thanks, guys.

So twelve is right?!?!?
Thanks for that, was about to scream at them.

Trouble is, the guy told my dad it needs 8 (i thought it should be 6) but the invoice says 12 so I guess that's ok then!!

(I hate Stealers.)

Thats 12 then.

16 on a V8!

Cheers, thanks guys.
Just been on the phone with them, arguing a few points. They've listed a dust filter twice on the estimate/order sheet. The guy says that that one listing on the sheet is only a booking from parts and would never have been charged (yeah right!!)

He told my dad 8 plugs are required but are charging for 12 (which I now realise is actually correct)

But it does me 'ead in how they don't really know what they are talking about.
They know about as much (little) as me!!

I HATE DEALERS!!!!!

(sorry!!)

Unfortunately the people you're dealing with - usually called Service Advisors I believe - have a varied background. Many know very little about cars or the way they work - but some are fantastic and have even been on the tools themselves.

I stopped using one local dealer as I had a different advisor each time I visited - and none of them had a clue - it took five visits to fix something simple, which was a function of not dealing with one person and a lack of knowledge.

I switched dealers as a result. I now almost always deal with the same advisor who was previously a tech - and still does a bit on the tools when required. The service I therefore receive is in a different league.

Choose your dealer - and/or Service Advisor carefully - and then stick with them!!

Of course that's where the likes of BlackC55 and IanBWalker - the person that you deal with is the person that fixes your car. ;)

If they charge for 12 make sure they fit 12, as the back 4 (2 each side) are a real fiddle to fit and I know that they get left sometimes, as no one will ever know.......

Better to take your Car to Ian Walker or Oliver BlackC55 and get it done properly

That's one of the reasons I respect independants such as Ian and Oliver, as you'll be dealing with the person who is doing the work.

Techs/Mechanics who never have to deal with the customer know that and I think this is sometimes reflected in the quality of the work. Also, vital information that is conveyed from customer to SA is often mistaken/ignored/misinterpreted so there is more chance of an unhappy customer.

A private business can't afford to have unhappy customers, they need to please people to earn the business.

I know there's many good main dealers, and just as many poor ones, this is just an observation based on experience and not just of MB.

Trouble is, how would we be able to verify that they have done all 12?

I'm seeing him this weekend so I can do this myself? I remove the plastic black cover and then will it be immediately obvious what I'm looking for?

You must use an open ended spanner and lever over the edge of the rocker cover, do not try and pull them off

Actually I have 28!!! :p

This is the first time that I have known them to give back the old ones

With me and I bet with Oliver, you will get the old plugs back, you will be shown the coil packs and will see where the bolts have been removed. If you are in any doubt, I would wait till your arrival and do the rear ones while you waited, just so that you know they have been done.

You would not be plugging for work would you, I mean I know that you are a bright spark :):):)

No just a bit miffed that someone would question my honesty and integrity.

The rear plugs are not that difficult to do. Spark plugs are nothing compared to some jobs on MB's.
