Having worked in the metal-processing industry all my life, I've always saved and sorted miscellaneous scrap.
This has been from my work and stuff that I have picked up over the years.
When I retired (sort-of) and moved house three years ago, I made a trip to the local scrap-dealer for a weigh-in.
The austenitic stainless was by-far the best earner; the copper was some way behind; the brass was less still; the cast-iron + mild steel was hardly worth taking to sell.
At the weigh-in, I realised around £350 ... a nice little bonus.
