evening all....how do i check ATF...looking under bonnet...i can see what looks like a dip stick tube but cant get the top off it??? ...not the engine oil one...

sorry for being stupid.......:bannana:

you cant. it requires a special 'tool' as too many idiots have over filled the gearbox under the wrong conditions, they decided to remove that possibility.

whats wrong with the box?

Atf fluid

nothing wrong just been doing weekly checks...oil water etc etc...thinking check auto box level .mmmmmmmmm...thats the bit i need ....cant get bung off the top.....:wallbash: wife says leave it ...you'll only break it.....its not your truck your doing....get bigger hammer joby....

You snap off the horizontal part of the red locking clip, then push the rest of the clip through the cover, and it will then pull off.

You will need a dipstick; available off eBay. The cheapo-cheapo one with the two metal sleeves crimped on (you'll see the pics) works OK, but it's a b****r to tell the level unless it's correct. The one with the calibrated black plastic bottom section works very well.

No... they block half-witted mechanics from siphoning-out the ATF when trying to carry-out an oil change (which has happened to one of the members here).
