Haven't got a jey washer or steam cleaner!

What's the best way to give the engine bay a spring clean?

You can get this stuff from Halfords that works quite well, its a two stage thing. 1st stage gets off all the gunk; spray it on wait for it to work the hose it off. 2nd stage is like a coating that leaves a nice sheen on everything. Used it before and it works a treat, just make sure you cover up all electircs properly before you start!

Any blank plastics come up well with the tyre / trim shine spray you can buy.

I give my engine a clean with the jet wash once a month or so, and then use tyre shine on the black plastic and it keeps it looking spotless.

I normally use the CO2 stuff from Halfords. Works like a dream! But beware that water does get into the electrics and after jetwashing the engine the ECU does store a load of fault codes due to this.

Best stuff I have found is the foaming tyre cleaner.... Get rid of the excess rubbish with Gunk and a paintbrush then just spray on the foam everywhere. You don't even need to wipe it off, it dries off in a couple of hours - best to leave overnight perhaps - and leaves a great shine that's not too bright and looks superb. It leaves everything like new and costs next to nothing.

I find the best thing is to drive it & not bother about what the engine looks like, thats why they fit a bonnet :)

Fair enough - but no higher than the manifold!
Otherwise it's Autoglym stuff for me and metal polish for all the... er... metal. Always make sure I start the job with at least two long fingernails.
If your really serious you take off the undertray and work from below - saves the knuckles :D

Don't use a jetwash, the water gets everywhere. Use a hose on a sprinkler or fan setting and you won't have problems.

I think jet washing an engine does more harm than good. What IS the point?
